Waterfalls & Can-Cans as Atlanta Ballet Celebrates 80 Years
Moulin Rouge- The Ballet, Cinderella and contemporary
performances by Atlanta’s own Big Boi (one-half of rap mega-duo OutKast) are a few of the unexpected performances you’ll find at the Atlanta Ballet. Sure, the company does its fair share of classics like the Nutcracker, which is practically a holiday must in ATL, but it also mixes it up with modern, popular story lines, bands and ballets that keep those who would never think about going to the ballet coming back every season.
Celebrating its 80th year, thus making it the longest continually operating ballet company in the nation, the Atlanta Ballet is amping up its performances (Moulin Rouge) as well as its performance venue. The last remaining part of the wildly popular Olafur Eliasson’s The New York City Waterfalls is finding a new home at Atlanta Ballet’s new home, the Michael C. Carlos Dance Centre. If anything, the road to the first 80 years will be nothing like the fresh enhancements that will surely make the future of the Atlanta Ballet spectacular.
