Classic movies with dapper gentlemen and classy ladies enjoying a sophisticated dinner and stiff cocktails are timeless favorites. Bob’s Steak and Chop House is the closest thing you’ll find to that moment in time where the portions were generous and drinks were delicious accessories. Old school charm abounds with the mahogany booths and extensive wine collection, not to mention the attentive service that doesn’t stop for a second. The signature glazed carrots and the smashed potatoes are tasty additions to a traditional filet mignon or rack of lamb. Skimping on portions isn’t Bob’s style; expect a hearty dish and a full belly.

Many of Dallas’ prominent names are regulars here, because the atmosphere is conducive to a business deal or a romantic rendezvous. Regardless of the reason you come to Bob’s, you’ll find everything here is a classic, and that’s what makes it a consistent winner.

Featured by Bon Appetit as one of the top ten best sushi restaurants in the nation, Sushi Ko places a strong focus on straightforward, quality ingredients, producing a variety of tantalizing menu options that are prepared in traditional techniques with a bit of contemporary flair.

Start off with a refreshing, customary seaweed salad, or splurge on a delectable small dish of seared lobster with creamy ponzu. Order a few traditional rolls, or be sure to capitalize on the more modern creations made from local freshwater gems, like the Blue Crab California Roll and the Softshell Crab Roll.

For those looking for something a little less raw, Sushi Ko boasts a few “well-done” Americanized dishes like the Roasted Maine Salmon with sweet potatoes and mushrooms, finished with a miso vinaigrette or the Beef Tenderloin Tataki. Balance out all that soy with a sweet finish to the evening. Sushi Ko offers an intriguing dessert menu with anything from Sake sorbet to Banana Tempura with rich chocolate sauce and cinnamon.

That said, who knows who tomorrow’s stars are, but you’re sure to find at least one of them on the stage at Second City at any given time. This is after all, the best improv-based comedy school and theater in the world.

Always pushing the envelope with witty humor that plays on everything from American politics to the flu, the Second City packs in audiences every day of the week, so buying tickets in advance is always recommended. On top of the stand up gigs, shows with a modern twist, a la Taming of the Flu, are performed on the main stage. Aside from the main stage, shows take place at the Skybox Theater and Chicago E.T.C.

For those who don’t want to stop the experience as a spectator only, classes are available. Who knows, maybe the next star is you?

Everyone who is anyone has since walked through these doors, including Chris Isaak, Robin Williams and Jill Scott.

When you walk into Bimbo’s, expect an evening of classic lounge acts, supper club entertainment and a dramatic art deco theme that is entirely reminiscent of the swankiest big band era nightspots. One of Bimbo’s famously plush events is its corporate and private parties for swanky Silicon Valley guests like Cellular One, Oracle, and Yahoo!. The venue offers tiered seating, dramatic lighting, fine dine table settings and a dance floor next to the concert stage.

Whether you’ve been a regular for years or it’s your first time here, Bimbo’s is the classic nightspot for the upscale traveler.

Dallas might not be known as the most scenic of cities, but the Katy Trail defies that stigma and brings nature, fitness and skyscrapers together in a beautiful way. Stretching from downtown to the SMU area in the Park Cities, the trail provides a path for joggers, walkers, skateboarders, bikers, rollerbladers, dog-walkers and baby strollers to move smoothly through the Dallas landscape.

The most recent addition, Snyder’s Union, overlooks the Trail at Carlisle Place close to Lemmon Avenue. It features a circular granite seating area covered by a dramatic trellis to reveal a beautiful view of Lee Park. If you take the trail north toward Park Cities, stop off on Knox Henderson at the Highland Park Pharmacy for a Vanilla Coke, Limeade, or several other old fashioned sodas to quench your thirst. 5K’s and walk-a-thons are not uncommon, so keep an eye out for opportunities to experience the nature on Katy in a variety of ways.

On the beach for well over a decade, this is Asian and so much more done right.

Billed as Asian-inspired world cuisine and sushi, the decor here is as beautiful as the food presentation, something the chefs at China Grill pride themselves on perfecting. Lobster pancakes with red chili coconut sauce, and lamb spareribs with a plum and sesame glaze are just a few of the tantalizing and original dishes offered on the menu that features about 38 other choices.

The Asian-influenced decor is the perfect match for a place that now offers diners individual and sharing portions for foodies who want to sample plenty. Sit alfresco, or indoors where the cool bar and atmosphere are all South Beach, but come, sit and eat at a place that’s ultra-Asian cool.

Gearing up for its 35th Anniversary next season, OCP is continuing to do exciting full-length operas of traditional and new repertoire along Philadelphia’s Avenue of the Arts.

OCP performs at the beautiful Academy of Music and in the Kimmel Center’s smaller Perelman Theater, letting patrons see large-scale productions as well as more intimate shows. With a focus on developing talent, the performers in OCP’s productions are all top notch. For example, in 1980 OCP began a long-standing relationship with Luciano Pavarotti, establishing a competition that seeks out the best young voice talent.

In addition to the performances, OCP features pre-concert lectures and Opera-enrichment programs in hopes that the love of opera will carry on through the generations. The Opera also puts on a full-length opera every year with the students at Philadelphia’s renowned music school The Curtis Institute of Music.

New Yorkers know restaurateur Danny Meyer as the “King of Hospitality” and his Madison Square Park restaurant Tabla (he has three on the park) is no exception to the rule. Serving up groundbreaking New Indian cuisine, Tabla has has received rave reviews for everything from its superior cuisine to the incredible service.

Mixing fresh, local ingredients with Indian spices, Tabla has received 3 stars from the New York Times and made a celebrity out of chef Floyd Cardoz, but it doesn’t stop with the food. During the summer months, the patio opens up and is always a lunch favorite for local I-bankers and the chic downtown crowd. On the side of the casual patio, there’s an even more casual on-the-go street cart that puts new meaning to fast food. No matter what the season, though, the “King of Hospitality” proves his name with an attentive and down-to-earth wait staff that makes anyone feel like a New Yorker.

Many stores on Robertson can claim celebrity clientele, but not many stake claim as the hub for expert stylists who are paid to dress the celebs. But Madison is the go-to store for the likes of Rachel Zoe and Jennifer Aniston’s stylist Jessica Pastor.

The sleek store looks like a showroom, with bare walls, ultra stylized mannequins and amazing collections of everything under the sun. Madison carries brand names like YSL and Marc Jacobs to up and coming LA designers, including some of Madison’s staff members! There are different shapes and sizes of shoes, sunglasses, jewelry (costume to real) as well as jeans, dresses, shirts and jackets. Madison covers every trend and every style, making it a favorite for those who want a one of a kind look, that will of course be copied by many others.
