New York, New York from the Top of the Rock
Boasting arguably the best rooftop views in NYC, Top of the Rock (the legendary 30 Rock, that is) is a on top of the tourist game. With breathtaking views of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Central Park (Top of the Rock actually blocks the Empire’s view of the park), the Statue of Liberty, all of the New York City Bridges, and maybe even your digs –
you can see for miles and miles in all directions from the Top of the Rock. With 360 degree views of the city, the three observation decks on the top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza reopened in 2005 with a stylish makeover from Swarovski, including an enormous crystal chandelier in the lobby that is modeled after the building, were it inverted.
Upon entering the attraction, patrons pass through the Top of the Rock museum and get a show in the swift ride up: the elevator ceiling becomes a semi-transparent video screen revealing the lit corridor of the elevator shaft above. Then you step outside onto the 70th floor roof deck with views to the north, south, east, and west, and the spectacle is undeniable. Even a jaded New Yorker couldn’t help but say, “Wow.” When you are this high above the city that never sleeps, you can almost hear Frank Sinatra singing New York, New York from heaven.
