The High Line: Manhattan’s West Side Oasis in the Sky
Once a passageway for freight trains thirty feet up, the High Line is now a sleek park in the sky on Manhattan’s quickly (and chic-ly) developing west side. Up here the views run the gambit from the calm of the Hudson River, to the gritty meets glass and steel luxury apartment buildings near by, to the majesty of the Empire State Building towering over the city’s skyline. And the scenery at your fingertips is not much to sneeze at either. A team of top architects and landscaping experts collaborated to create the sophisticated yet natural-looking surroundings. Think: wild dandelions sprouting up between the recessed lit wood planks of a walkway. And if that is still not enough to inspire and entertain the jaded New Yorker, there is a steady flow of people watching to do up here – and a pretty swanky backdrop to see your fellow New Yorkers against.
