Admire, Buy or Create at Philadelphia Glassworks
One part shop, one part gallery and one part do-it-yourself lampmaking? At Philadelphia Glass Works you can go from admiration to buying, and if nothing suits your taste, well, you can whip it up in the back! The front gallery, named Silica Galleries, is beautifully set with resident and local artist work. Resident artists offer classes ranging from beginner bead-making to lampworking and slumping publicly or for private lessons (did somebody say girls night?).
Philly Glass Works is the only public lampworking facility in the city, offering a refuge for many local artists; these crafters can display and sell their work at the gallery as well, creating a wonderful opportunity for buyers (like us) to find some unique treasures. The Silica Galleries website keeps the gallery schedule up to date, so if you have your eye on a particular artist be sure to see when his or her work will be featured!
