Matyson Remains Philly’s Darling BYOB
When you go to a restaurant that is named after a combination
of the original owners’ first names, who happen to be husband and wife, you just know that there’s going to be all sorts of lovely, yummy goodness happening inside its walls.
Matyson’s food is simple and downright good. The 5-course tasting menu for $45 is a bargain and features local, seasonal ingredients. It is available Mondays through Thursdays and changes weekly based on the market. Otherwise the menu items are just as tempting, packing a punch with some refreshing twists on favorite bistro items.
Matyson opened its doors in 2003 and has maintained its reputation the leader in Philadelphia’s finest BYOBs (Bonus: There’s no corkage fee if you want a nice Bordeaux with your Rib Eye). The original couple has since made the pilgrimage to Napa for new restaurant opportunities, but ownership is still in the family with the uncle, Butch Puchowitz, managing, his son Ben in the kitchen and co-executive chef Brian Lofink.
