Industrial style meets nature at risk taking clothing store Owen

Owen’s thoughtful compilation of men's and women’s wear in rich jewel tones, dark neutrals, and complex, highly textured knit, leather, and fur, make it a worthwhile addition the high-end boutiques in the meatpacking district. Phillip Salem, Owen’s enthusiastic, 25-old-owner, handpicks every piece―his lofty goal is to ensure that each pick is both statement-making and timeless.

Creatures of Comfort got your style covered!

Creatures of Comfort is the type of store every fashionista will fall in love with. But the store it is not for fashionistas only. In fact, it has a little bit for everybody: from shoes, to clothing, unique accessories, and art. Despite the variety of things they sell the space looks airy, and beautifully organized. They carry a large variety of labels such as Acne, Tom Scott, MM6, and of course the house label, Creatures of Comfort. Most of the labels have designs in minimalistic style with a very modern, urban touch. The store is getting daily shipments of merchandise, so expect to see new things every time you walk in. Creatures of Comfort will make sure you never go out of style. 205 Mulberry St., New York, NY 10012

The MoMA Store

The MoMa store in Soho is one of my favorite places to shop for creative items. They offer a large variety of cool, quirky objects, from toys, books, prints, to jewelry, accessories, and home deco products. It is certainly one of the best stores to shop during the gift season, as there is something for everybody. However, I highly recommend it to those who simply want to spoiled themselves and buy something ‘cool’ at an affordable price. As you can probably guess, every object is very modern, and unique, being that an electronic watch, a plastic chair, or a croc woven rug. If you are only visiting New York, I recommend the MoMA store, as highly as I recommend the Museum with the same name. 81 Spring St New York, NY 10012 (646) 613-1367

The Fabulous ABC Home

ABC Carpet is more than a store. This stunning place feels more like a museum, where you can take home your favorite pieces. The six floor flagship located in Manhattan at 888 Broadway and 19thStreet, is a combination of exhibits of European antiques, vintage goods, Asian rugs, glittering chandeliers, gigantic statues, modern pieces of furniture, and much more. Despite the variety of styles which they sell, everything is beautifully exhibited, and blends in perfectly. Most people go there to shop, but there are many people – including myself, who go there just for the visual experience. Yes, their items are luxurious, and they come at a high price, but ABC Carpet is truly the wonderland of home deco. 888 Broadway New York, NY 10003 (212) 473-3000

Isabel Marant – comfort and style meet on Green Street

The French born designer Isabel Marant brings to the US the quintessential Parisian style. At a first look, her designs seem effortless, comfortable, but with details which give them a bohemian, modern twist. The muted colors, and the high-end textiles, make her clothing easy to wear, but visually beautiful. Even though, she is a well established designer in France, Isabel Marant opened her first boutique in New York in 2009 on Green Street (corner of Broom). Her store sells her main collection and a more affordable line – Etoile. She also designs and sels beautiful pieces of jewelry. With the opening of this store, Marant became increasingly more popular among NY’s fashion people, so her loose-fitted dresses and masculine jackets can be seen on Thursday nights at galley opening in Chelsea, or on a Saturday night in Meat Packing. Therefore, Isabel Marant creates for the stylish woman, who wants to be fashionable, but feel comfortable at the same time, and look as if she didn’t put much effort in dressing up, even though she looks absolutely fabulous. 469 Broome Street New York, NY 10013 (212) 219-2284

Calypso – Cruise in Style

The glamour of St. Barts translated into fashion – that’s how I would describe Calypso’s designs. Founded by the French fashion guru Christiane Celle, Calypso is the intersection between chic and glamorous with comfortable and summery. The silk-beaded dresses, pants, tops, and skirts are perfect for an upscale island vacation, but great for a summer promenade in NYC, or an evening in the Hamptons as well. Calypso has a couple of Zen, beautifully decorated stores in NYC: 426 Broom St, 935 Madison Av, 191 Lafayette, 815 Madison etc. They also have leather accessories, shoes, bikinis and a gorgeous house line. My favorites are the candles and the house fragrances which can bring the scent of St. Barts into your own living room.

Marc by Marc Jacobs, a budget-friendly store

Marc Jacobs needs no introduction. He is certainly one of the most influential American designers alive. But if you think brand name clothing and accessories always come with a high price, well, you are wrong. The little Marc by Marc Jacobs store located on West Village's cutes block - Bleecker between 11th street and Bank has prices for every budget. The store has pretty much everything a true fashionista needs: keychains, rain boots, wallets, umbrellas, scarves, jewelry, T-shirts etc, etc, etc. For only $20 bucks you can buy a Marc Jacobs T-shirt, and for $28 a pair of MJ rain boots. The store is no longer a secret to New Yorkers or tourist, therefore it is always packed. Regardless the weather, there is always a huge line outside, but the wait is worth it.

Rag and Bone

07_bird_lg
If you consider yourself a true fashionista, you must have a couple of Rag and Bone pieces in your wardrobe. Their clothing have a somewhat British influence, being modern, understated, fashionable, yet a little classy. The quality of the fabrics is high, and everything is nicely tailored (mostly in the United States). The Rag and Bone jeans are the type of jeans you will wear for years and years. In New York, Rag and Bone has four flagship stores, men's and women's, on Christopher Street West Village, as well as a SoHo store on Mercer Street. And as any reputable brand, Rag and Bone has a fashion show during New York Fashion Week. Visit rag-bone.com for more information.

Tokio 7: Consignment Couture

Tokio 7 is the little 7th Street consignment shop that everyone goes to. The shelves and racks are always packed with lightly used - sometimes brand-new looking - designer clothes, shoes, and accessories at about half the retail price; and because the store sells so much, everything in there is always current. Looking for a pair of slick Paul Smith oxfords? Or a metallic Gucci minidress? How about a pair of Persol sunglasses? Or a Helmut Lang tank? They've got all that - but not for long. Next week it will be gone and in it's place some Marc Jacobs cargo pants, Valentino motorcycle boots, a couple of Balanciaga handbags, and a Jill Sander shift dress. If you are lucky you may even find a couture Chanel jacket. Whatever you are looking for, Tokio 7 is wort checking out, especially now that it's in its new location that is just a smidge bigger. tokio7

Update Your Closet at Beacon’s Closet

For the most sought-after trends and vintage pieces look no further then Beacon's Closet in where else but hipster-ville Williamsburg. This warehouse converted into a consignment shop can't really be called a shop; it is three huge rooms full of men's and women's clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, and home goods that run the gambit from retro-chic to sleek and sexy to straight-up street wear. There are not many places that you can get La Rock striped booty shorts, Levis in every wash imaginable and Nike's in every color imaginable, a white Calvin Klein rouched mini dress – for under twenty-five bucks! – silver Costume National pumps, light blue boat shoes, and an Andy Warhol look book; but, at Beacon's Closet you can. All the goods are lightly used and formerly loved, with price tags that may shock you, in a good way. And if you are looking to unload your old duds they do that for you here too, but remember, only bring in the fabulous pieces as this is not your average Salvation Army type thrift shop – this place is hip and caters to that crowd.3018558507_9f1914bea4_o

shanae_grimes Foley Corinna bagEvery city girl needs a Foley + Corinna City Tote. It's the it-bag year after year thanks to fresh colors, sizes, and materials that make it new every season. It's convertible yet uncomplicated and oh-so-refined looking. And that's just one of more than a dozen hip bags from Foley + Corinna. The slouchy shape of the Moto Hobo is cool and casual and it has just enough hardware to make it nighttime chic too.
