Distrito Serves Modern & Creative Mexican

13533_194338173155_178371218155_3869631_1576475_nDistrito serves modern Mexican food in a fun and quirky environment - Pepto-Bismol pink walls and VW bugs as booths to be exact. Located in University City among three of Philadelphia's major universities, Distrito is always packed with the young and young at heart that are ready to have a good time. And Chef Jose Garces (of Top Chef and Philadelphia restaurant fame) is ready all the time for the taco-loving crowds: Distrito is open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, lunch 5 days a week and dinner 7 nights a week. The first floor bar and tequila lounge serves a fun cantina menu, full of all different types of tacos, enchiladas and especialidades, then when served alongside a house specialty margarita, you are good to go. For the heavier appetite or a night out with friends, it's best to get a table and be prepared to share. All of the dishes are based on traditional Mexican ingredients but modernized - like the Fish Tacos with yellowtail, chipotle remoulade, avocado, red cabbage and lime juice, or the Skirt Steak Nachos with refried beans and queso mixto. Tasting menus are also always available, with tequila pairings, which are not recommended for the faint of heart.

Tory Burch’s Philly Fave is The Guard House

Tory Burch, the designer that epitomizes Manhattan, Gossip Girl style, is actually a Philadelphia native- and raised on a farm, no less! But amidst all the glitz and glamour of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, Tory told citybuzz there's one place she has to go when she's back in her hometown: The Old Guard House Inn Restaurant.Picture 7 Much like Tory's upbringing, The Guard House, as Tory says, is in the suburbs of Philadelphia and quite unassuming. Yet, this historical landmark (rumor says George Washington slept here) is a neighborhood favorite for those in the know. Year after year it's voted the Main Line's best restaurant and the Philadelphia Inquirer gave it an "Excellent" rating. It's this neighborhood vibe that keeps people coming back: generous servers and generous portions. The prices are just right for oversized plates of German and Continental inspired food like Wiener Schnitzel and signature Lobster Bisque. The Old Guard House Inn may be away from the city lights, but it's bright enough to keep Big City Gal Tory Burch coming back time and time again. *** Tory Burch is a fashion designer of her namesake line, Tory Burch, based in New York City. Celebrity fans include Cameron Diaz, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman and Hilary Swank.
