1. Whole Week of Celebration for MLK, Jr. 1/9-1/18/10

In honor of what would be Martin Luther King’s 81st birthday, and the 25th anniversaryPicture 11 of the national holiday created to celebrate his work and life, a wonderful, week-long roster of events is being presented by The King Center.

The Center, founded in 1968 by the fallen leader’s wife, Coretta Scott King, is a premier site for people to learn, share and celebrate the principles Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his energies to.

From the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s concert, “A King Celebration” at the King Chapel of Morehouse College to the Salute to Greatness Awards banquet and a Health and Wellness Forum, the week is jam-packed with exhibits, seminars, concerts, and children’s activities for all.

3. AJFF Gala & 10 Year Anniversary 1/4/10; 1/13-1/24/10

The 10th annual Atlanta Jewish Film Festival – Atlanta’Picture 21s largest film festival- kicks off with an extraordinary collaborative event on January 4th with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Guest conductor Richard Kaufman leads the orchestra in a mélange of Jewish-themed film scores – from Schindler’s List to Masada – that will be presented with montages of stills from each movie profiled.

This year, the AJFF will showcase 50 international, independent and studio films that focus on storytelling, and the universality of themes in the human condition.  Screenings will be replete with guest speakers – actors, directors, authors, academics and other experts – who will lead audience members in a lively dialogue and in-depth examination of the featured films.

1. Ring in a Classy New Year with the ASO 12/31/09

ASOTwo-time Grammy Award-Winning vocalist Sylvia McNair joins the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra offering a classy way to ring in the New Years.  McNair has produced over 70 recordings and has accepted incredible invitations to perform for The Pope John Paul II, Hilary Clinton, and The U.S. Supreme Court. Arrive at 6 pm for a delicious three-course feast and then relax to favorites like “The Can-Can” to “Devil Went Down to Georgia.”
