LATIN DANCE & LOL’S – JUNE 24

Put on those dancing shoes, laugh out loud, and work out while sight seeing!

Relax or go for a run at White Rock Lake

Located just east of downtown, White Rock Lake is Dallas’ answer to mother nature without having to stray too far from the city. White Rock Lake provides a sanctuary with bird watching, 9.33 miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing, and picnic areas. The historic Bath House Cultural Center, located right on the shore of White Rock lake, is also a destination for viewing art by local artists and artisans. The lake is also host to Dallas’ famous annual White Rock Marathon, and is just a skip, hop and a jump from the Dallas Arboretum. For those looking for physical activity or a relaxing day with scenic views and good people watching, White Rock Lake is Dallas’ closest destination to get outdoors.

Cherry Creek State Park: The Great Outdoors in the Big City

Situated in Aurora about fifteen minutes south of the airport, this park is a giant hive of activity year round. In warm weather, the 880-acre reservoir opens to swimmers, boaters, jet-skiers, volleyball players, and fishermen; in wintertime, there’s cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, and sledding. And that’s just the beginning: picnic areas and campgrounds mean that you can go biking, hiking, horseback riding, sharpshooting, birding, model airplane flying, and more for days on end. Gather all sorts of materials about local flora and fauna, equipment rental, and children’s programs at the park office.

Segway to Me Baby

Yeah it’s true that Segways will never really look all that normal. See one cruising past at high speed and it’s hard not to have a chuckle. The thing is, they’re just so darn convenient. When it comes to touring Chi-town that is. Walking tours are great but to cover major space and fast, Segways do the trick. Pride aside of course.

If you just can’t handle the Segway, bikes are just as popular and Chi-town was actually voted the #1 bike-friendly city in the US by Bicycling Magazine! So strap on your helmet and get ready to ride!

Chicago Bike ‘n Roll Tours allow tourists to see the best the city has to offer without the restrictions of roadways (i.e. double decker bus tours), or swollen feet (i.e. walking tours).

Bikes for rent are Trek and come in every option you could prefer. Tours adventure through Millennium Park, the lakefront, charming neighborhoods, famous Buckingham Fountain, Navy Pier, Lincoln Park, and much more. In fact there are 9 tours to choose from so everybody leaves happy.segway-1_jpg_595x1000_q85

4. Roam Traffic-Free Streets for LA Marathon March 20-21

IncrediPicture 18ble weather, beautiful people, what’s there to hate about LA? Traffic! Well once a year the cars clear for runners and bikers for the 25th annual LA Marathon. Unlike many major cities where the marathon is a one-day event, in LA it’s a weekend long event. On Saturday, check out (or join!) the manageable 5K race at Dodger Stadium. After the hearty run, there’s the Win Forever Motivational Dinner hosted by none other than legendary sports figure, USC head coach Pete Carroll.

Of course, let’s not forget the big day. On Sunday, the marathon, with a brand new course this year, will start at Dodger Stadium and end, where else, than the beach at Santa Monica Pier. The course runs through some of LA’s most diverse neighborhoods and famous landmarks, and an added bonus will be the “Block Parties,” or live performances space along the route to entertain the spectators.

Crissy Field: Weekend Windsurfing & Everything Else

Looking for an all-purpose, exquisitely maintained outdoor venue without the private club membership? Head to Crissy Field in the Marina District, where boredom and inactivity are not an option. This is where San Francisco spends its weekends: on windsurfing boards, kayaks, nature trails, dog-friendly beaches, bike paths, and open lawns.

Crissy Field is also the perfect place to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge, with no need to drive to the north viewing terrace in Sausalito, let alone homepage_san_fransicopay for the toll or the fancy postcards. Not to mention you can kill two birds with one stone, since Alcatraz, “The Rock,” is just off the coast in the center of the bay. Stick around with your blankets and folding chairs for sunset over the bridge- it’s a soft, romantic light show you won’t want to miss.

Originally a US Mail Airfield, Crissy Field has been transformed by the community through years of native plant restoration, historic preservation, and refurbished park amenities. All the years have paid off as this is now an amazing venue for the beach, sightseeing, and everything in between.
