Centennial Olympic Park: Year Round Fun for Everyone

This glorious 21-acre park, in downtown Atlanta, originally used as gathering place during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, is a must visit on your trip to Atlanta.  With various events taking place year round, one of the favorite hot weather past times is playing in the Fountain of Rings. Cool off and enjoy the water show, where you’ll see synchronized water frolic to your favorite music, with the added bonus of unique lighting and sound effects. The FountainSide Café offers delicious food and beverages, while the Visitor Center can help you purchase a Centennial Olympic Park souvenir. One of the coolest features here is the many thousands of special bricks, each with inscriptions, purchased for $35 a piece, to help construct the park. In the colder months, take advantage of the ice-skating rink, and then warm up with a hot chocolate.

One of the best aspects of the World of Coke is the Pop Culture Gallery. It features artistic works celebrating Coke as a pop culture icon. The Margaret Mitchell House is Home to Everything Gone with the Wind

Best known for housing the apartment where Margaret Mitchell wrote the classic Gone With the Wind, this turn of the century building is a haven for literary buffs. Where else can you feast your eyes on the very apartment where, ‘Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn!’ was conceived, during a guided tour, and check out a full GWTW movie exhibition, too?

Located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta, The Margaret Mitchell House offers a unique glimpse into the author’s Southern roots and everything GWTW. You can take a piece home with you, because it features a unique gift shop, including Gone With the Wind-inspired figurines from the San Francisco Music Box Company. Polonaise holiday ornaments of Scarlett, Rhett, Ashley, and other legendary characters are also available for purchase. The Literary Center offers, among others things, writing workshops for kids and adults. Special events are also held at the home, including weddings and corporate events.

Insider’s Tip: As an added bonus, purchase a Dual Ticket to the Margaret Mitchell House and the Atlanta History Center and save 25% when visiting these two must-see attractions for one low price. Go ahead, get your history on because as Scarlett so aptly said, ‘After all…tomorrow is another day.” Click here for more information.

Fox Bros BBQ: A Taste of Texas in Atlanta

fox bbq bros. When Jonathan Fox couldn’t find Texas Style bbq in Atlanta, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He started cooking bbq on his own and it became the stuff of legends. When he was laid off from his corporate job, he knew exactly what he was gonna do next.  He and his brother serve food with ‘Texas roots and a Southern influence.’ If you are a meat eater come hungry. The brisket, ribs, smoked chicken and an obvious fave, pulled pork sandwich, are all well worth a trip. They’ve also won a ‘Best Wings in Atlanta’ award.  But the great news is, you’ll love Fox Bros. if you are a vegetarian!  Fried okra is served whole, not sliced in pieces and is delicious.  Bravo to their mac and cheese too, and don’t miss the fried pickle chips.  It will be tough, but save room for dessert. You won’t regret it.
