Luxury Garage Sale: costume jewelery & the coolest vintage finds!

Luxury Garage Sale is co-founded by partners Brielle Buchberg and Lindsay Segal. Childhood friends, Brielle and Lindsay always had a love of collecting; beginning with stickers and erasers, evolving to shoes and handbags. However, over the years their assorted collections soon overwhelmed their available storage space. LGSChicagoUtilizing their backgrounds in fashion and sales, Brielle and Lindsay began selling their unwanted items. After realizing that their friends had the same predicament as well, a light flashed and voila… Luxury Garage Sale was born!

Luxury Garage Sale is an upscale consignment service that specializes in selling new and gently used contemporary, designer and vintage clothing and accessories. Visit luxurygaragesale.com for more information.

Fine and Dandy

The store’s expansive selection of bowties, ascots, and spats. The shop is decorated with a combination of product and vintage paraphenalia, like the ‘Dress well and succeed’ poster (photo below). Much of the merchandise is the same as is on the website. But it is always nice to see something before purchasing it. However, there are additions to the sites repertoire, like some of the hats.

Blake Scotland

We’re obsessed with the Lower East Side and for the last year have taken pleasure in dressing her friends, neighbors, and strangers from New York and cities and countries abroad.
Every line carried in the boutique is hand chosen for its high quality, unique design, and perfect attention to detail. If we wouldn’t wear it we are not going to sell it. Consistently influenced by this neighborhood, each piece reflects its cutting edge sensibility – comfort clothing for the wild child who’s just a little rough around the edges.
The boutique itself maintains an emphasis on making passionate hard work fun. This ethos is reflected through every facet of Blake Scotland: The hot, clever staff, boyfriends smoking on the bench out front, creative excuses to host events – albeit increasingly fashion focused. There’s no I in team. We aren’t shy about pooling our resources. We boast a family of friends who turn ideas and dreams into reality.

Accessorize and then some at Sam Moon

If you’re ever in dire need of a belt, bag, any jewelry, luggage, faux fancy flip flops or a tiara, go to Sam Moon. Sam Moon is a warehouse of every accessory under the sun and then some. Despite the openness of every store’s floor plan (or rather, lack thereof) and short shelving, it’s still somehow possible to get lost in oozits and whatzits galore. It’s like a no man’s land of cheap but nice-enough looking jewelry and accessories at rock bottom prices. Another nice thing about Sam Moon is their intolerance for ill-behaved children. They have three locations across the metroplex in Dallas, Frisco and Fort Worth.

Roseark, lPicture 7ocated in West Hollywood, is filled with designer one of a kind pieces and elegant jewelry that is every L.A. fashionista’s secret gem. Designers such as Kathy Rose (Bravo’s Launch My Line) and Jennifer Meyer (Tobey Maguire’s wife) showcase pieces like wrap around snake cuffs and over the top emerald cocktail rings.

Some of the best jewelry from Roseark are the small and intricate pieces, such as the simple gold peace sign bracelet and horizontal cross necklace. Tokio 7 is the little 7th Street consignment shop that everyone goes to. The shelves and racks are always packed with lightly used – sometimes brand-new looking – designer clothes, shoes, and accessories at about half the retail price; and because the store sells so much, everything in there is always current. Hermes: Scarve Yourself French

Perhaps the arrival of an Hermes store in Chicago means the Windy City has really made it in the fashion world. The French phenom brand is the brains behind the all-elusive Birkin bag which has a waiting list of up to two years in some cases and of course a whole slew of amazing scarves that will make anyone look instantaneously French.

Its location couldn’t be more than ideal, across the street from a supersized Barney’s and Prada, Hermes brings the level of chic to this carrefour to a level only this line could. Alas visit the store of the line rumored to have Oprah banging down its doors during off hours for an emergency purchase (the Paris location) and scarve yourself fabulous.

Madison is a Stylist’s Dream Where Celebs Get Their Looks

Many stores on Robertson can claim celebrity clientele, but not many stake claim as the hub for  expert stylists who are paid to dress the celebs. But Madison is the go-to store for the likes of Rachel Zoe and Jennifer Aniston’s stylist Jessica Pastor.

The sleek store looks like a showroom, with bare walls, ultra stylized mannequins and amazing collections of everything under the sun. Madison carries brand names like YSL and Marc Jacobs to up and coming LA designers, including some of Madison’s staff members! There are different shapes and sizes of shoes, sunglasses, jewelry (costume to real) as well as jeans, dresses, shirts and jackets. Madison covers every trend and every style, making it a favorite for those who want a one of a kind look, that will of course be copied by many others.

Update Your Closet at Beacon’s Closet

For the most sought-after trends and vintage pieces look no further then Beacon’s Closet in where else but hipster-ville Williamsburg. This warehouse converted into a consignment shop can’t really be called a shop; it is three huge rooms full of men’s and women’s clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, and home goods that run the gambit from retro-chic to sleek and sexy to straight-up street wear. There are not many places that you can get La Rock striped booty shorts, Levis in every wash imaginable and Nike’s in every color imaginable, a white Calvin Klein rouched mini dress – for under twenty-five bucks! – silver Costume National pumps, light blue boat shoes, and an Andy Warhol look book; but, at Beacon’s Closet you can. All the goods are lightly used and formerly loved, with price tags that may shock you, in a good way. And if you are looking to unload your old duds they do that for you here too, but remember, only bring in the fabulous pieces as this is not your average Salvation Army type thrift shop – this place is hip and caters to that crowd.3018558507_9f1914bea4_o

Sara Jane’s No Plain Jane

Goodbye to Plain Jane. Sayonara, Farewell, Au revoir! Now say hello to Sara Jane.

It was the fall of 2002 when Sara Jane opened a store bearing her own name in hopes of providing a true boutique experience amongst the slew of chains just blocks nearby on the Magnificent Mile. Nestled in perhaps Chicago’s most charming neighborhood, Old Town, Sara Jane has made her humble splash on the scene. Although a regular in Lucky Magazine and Chicago Magazine, ask your average Chicagoan and they probably have never heard of the place.

But local fashionistas and Old Towners know to turn to Sara Jane for unique finds on adorable dresses, cocktail wear, jeans and accessories. The quick turnover allows for more variety and the small space often times conjures up new friendships and gab sessions (lucky thing there are plenty of pubs and bistros nearby!) A visit when “Sara Jane” herself (a.k.a. Sara Plocker) is there will only prove this neighborhood-gal-pal feel all the more.

Circle Art at Home: Posh furnishings and accessories

The furnishings and accessories available at Miami Beach’s Circle Art at Home are lovingly created by designer Jesse Brody with quality, style and affordability in mind. Although most of the styles are contemporary, there are also touches of African art and Oriental rugs.

There are two store locations on South Beach. The Lincoln Road store is where most of the public goes to check out their unique mirrors, modern lighting, sofas and ottomans, rugs and other accessories. Over on Lenox Avenue is where custom pieces can be ordered and there’s a bit less inventory. However, the massive expanse of Oriental rugs available at the Lenox location are a don’t miss.

One common factor between the two stores though, design and decorating enthusiasts will certainly walk out with an original piece that will add flair and style to any room in the house.

Circle Art at Home is located at 714 Lincoln Road and 1560 Lenox Avenue, Miami Beach

Scandalous to Fabulous at New Limelight Marketplace

It’s hard to believe the once infamous nightclub Limelight-that was once an Episcopal church turned into a scandalous late night party house- is now a chichi mall. There’s a doorman in a marble lobby of the new Limelight Marketplace, a chandelier on every ceiling, and exquisite – read, expensive – designer pajamas available from Olatz that you can wear in bed, while you eat artisan chocolate from Mariebelle Cacao Bar & Cafe.

On the first floor, formerly the main dance floor, there are Havianas and Hunter boots in every color imaginable, on the balconies there are flower arrangements from Barbara Scott (that might break the bank if you’re not careful), and rows of dainty handmade jewels from Tina Tang. And in the once co-ed bathroom that posted naked pictures of porn stars, you will find classy Brocade home furnishings fit for a modern princess.

In short, the Limelight Marketplace has it all for the ultimate upscale New York, however ironic, shopping experience. But lost on this irony the Limelight Marketplace is not. Many of the boutique stalls are set up around little bars that serve wares instead of alcohol: at Alexander West you can order a custom (bespoke!) men’s dress shirt and at Petrossian you can order ten different types off caviar – if that’s what you’re into. There are mannequins dressed as club kids on the main floor and there are antique bobbles from Old Hollywood on display in front of an enormous stained glass tryptic on the balcony. Shopping at the Limelight Marketplace is truly a unique experience – especially if you have experienced it in its former gritty glory.

Luxurious Lester Lampert

Picture 97Lester Lampert, located on Oak Street in the Gold Coast lives amongst neighbors such as Harry Winston, Hermes and Bvlgari to name a few. But yet it’s possible you’ve not heard the name before — if you’re not a jewelry connoisseur or a Chi-town native. Well, Lester Lampert is both.

One visit to his retail space of dreams, which doubled its original size in 2005, is enough to make anyone weak in the knees. The sparkles, the baubles, the diamonds! But it’s Lester’s unique designs that have gotten him where he is today. Chosen as the designer of the Field Museum‘s most noteworthy gems, Loyola University’s stained glass windows and more Chicago icons, one look and you’ll understand why.

Word of the wise: This is not a store to skip. It is a must visit when in the Windy City…if you like gorgeous things that is.

The Scoop On The Latest Fashion

Scoop’s byline is “the ultimate closet.” And how else could this – Alice & Olivia tunics, Zac Posen gowns, Tom Binns jewelry, Theory blazers, Helmut Lang tees, Marc Jacobs clutches, Vince camis, exclusive Stewart Weitzman heels and flats, Ya-Ya skirts, and Acne jeans – be described? Ultimate, for starters, because that’s just the women’s section. The men’s, kid’s, and home sections meaPicture 49sure up accordingly with brands like DSquared and Chip & Pepper.

For one-stop fashion shopping there are three Scoop locations in New York City to chose from. The SoHo Scoop, which is aptly referred to as the Mega-Scoop, is where you will find current runway trends and staples alike from every hip designer you’ve ever lusted over. Translation: this store is huge and has it all. The West Village Scoop houses a concept store that is referred to as “the ultimate attic” and tends more towards Ileana Makri jewelry, Havaiana flip-flops, and Freecity hoodies. And for uptowners, well, there’s the uptown Scoop. But regardless of location, the Scoop philosophy of shopping remains the same: all the clothes and accessories are organized by trend, color, and type so that the ever time-strapped New York shopper can find exactly what they want, right along side the right pieces to compliment what they came shopping for.

Nice to Meet You, Fred Segal

Picture 15The epitome of Los Angeles living is all rolled up into one at Fred Segal on Melrose. Only in L.A. can you sip cocktails, shop designers and spot celebrities all in the same location. The lavish store, broken up into sections such as “The Parliament” and “Fred Segal Fun and Style,” is the ultimate hot spot for celebrities, and those who adore them, to get their shop on.

The reason Fred Segal is so popular is due to its location and ability to deliver the best clothing, shoes and accessories for L.A. fashionistas. If you are in the mood to spot a celeb, it definitely comes with a price; Fred Segal is the epitome of overpriced.

If you aren’t fortunate enough to drop some cash at the store, it is definitely worth it to sit out on the patio for lunch or an afternoon cocktail. Even though it’s a clothing store, some might argue that this is a Los Angeles landmark. Let the sightseeing begin.

Thread Lounge: Discounted Designers to New Labels

“Where did you find that- and for what price?” will soon be familiar words if you put Russian Hill’s Thread Lounge into your shopping rotation. Opened by fashion industry veteran Colleen Smith, the Polk Street shop sells high-end sample pieces and excess stock from both Picture 19independent designers and sartorial titans at greatly discounted prices. With 300 labels in the loft-like space and apparel and accessories for men, women and children, it’s a one-stop shop for all seasons and occasions. From chic yoga gear to statement-making evening wear, Thread Lounge Designer Sample Sales has you covered.

You’ll certainly be charmed by the price tags on designs by the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Trina Turk, and Joe’s Jeans, but this boutique’s biggest asset is the attire from lesser-known, up-and-coming designers, like Julie Brown and Nougat of London. Smith’s extensive stable of local and international labels makes for a wardrobe of seemingly one-of-a-kind wears that will no doubt become a talking point. Whether you pick up the most becoming blue jeans or a head-turning party dress, you’ll spur curiosity and envy in all who pass you by.

Chanel, Halston, Dior at Rare Vintage

All New Yorkers covet vintage clothing, because everyone wants that one-of-a-kind piece to stand out in the crowd. Rare Vintage is the answer to that fashion holy grail: an entire store dedicated to hard to find, high-end designers and pieces that are simply no longer around today. From a red silk Balenciaga 1960 coat- worn by royalty!- to a limited edition Hermes ‘Security’ Kelly Bag to an owl head shaped minaudiere that looks like it came straight out of a Sex and the City episode, Rare Vintage is filled with gems from the icons of the fashion world past and present. Owner Juliana Cairone is a master of finding these rare pieces from all over the world, making frequent scouring trips to Paris and Italy, and luckily bringing back all her finds to the heart of Midtown Manhattan for fashion hungry shoppers.

Change Your Stripes at Fancy Tiger Boutique

Clothes may make the man (or woman), but accessories make the clothes—which means Fancy Tiger may just make your day. This extra-funky, staunchly indie Baker District boutique does sell plenty of frocks—many using recycled or organic materials—but it specializes in the small stuff, from suspenders and fedoras to combination handlebar/shoulder bags, laser-cut jewelry, and even handmade stationery; its adjacent craft-supply outlet also offers classes in needlefelting, embroidery, and more.

Cooler still, as part of the citywide First Friday Art Walk, it hosts Denver Made, an evening trunk show featuring local designers and libations to the tunes of live DJs.

Cutting Edge Fashion at Cusp

cuspAs Yves Saint Laurent once reflected, “fashion fades; style is eternal.”  At the chic Georgetown boutique, Cusp, both fashion and style are ever present with a perfect selection from edgy, yet sophisticated designers such as Elizabeth and James, Alice & Olivia, Diane von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs.  Created as a younger, edgier boutique by infamous fashion giant, Neiman Marcus, style mavens can rest assured that Cusp will definitely have what’s in vogue.

Fashionistas will drool over flirty Milly dresses, sky-high Loeffler Randall stilettos, and a variety of the best accessories and beauty products available. Treat yourself to a day of shopping in quaint Georgetown and heat things up later with a hot new addition to your travel wardrobe – one trip to this trendy shop and you’ll be on the cusp on what’s hot in no time!

Spice Up the Abode with Sleek Beau Living

For most people, sprucing up their home’s interior and exterior is a welcome change, and with the sleek furnishings offered at Beau Living, it almost becomes an art form.Picture 5 The large showroom located on Miami’s up and coming Biscayne Boulevard, houses a massive amount of furnishings- sofas to pillows to artwork- for every room in the home.

The mission of the Sebaaly family, owners of the store, is to work directly with the manufacturers to provide the latest styles their customers are seeking out. The featured designs are streamlined and clean and run the gamut to include funky yet functional chaise lounge chairs, chairs and ottomans, as well as  sofas and sectionals with unconventional designs. For the exterior, the cool daybeds, seating sets, and sofas are reminiscent of what’s found around a hip, cool lounging area surrounding a South Beach hotel pool. They also sell artwork and accessories for the home.

2 Stores + 100s of Bright Ideas = 5 Green Boxes

HPicture 6oused in two separate storefronts on Old South Pearl, 5 Green Boxes spilleth over with the stuff of great splurging. In the larger home boutique, you’ll encounter the likes of wastepaper baskets shaped like Chinese take-out containers, floral-patterned garden tools, chunky embossed belt buckles, and all kinds of rugs, pillows, place settings, candles, and carryalls made from unexpected and recycled materials and one-a-kind chairs made from the in house design studio.

The smaller shop, meanwhile, is fashion-filled, emphasizing colorful knits and tunics in exotic prints along with a wealth of funky accessories, from cool costume jewelry to scarves and tights to crayon-bright eye frames.

Yes, There’s Still Fabric on Fabric Row!

Fabric Row in South Philadelphia has broadened over time to so much more than textiles, yet still holds its reputation for the best fabric in the region. The Row is now amarlemsteinsn eclectic mix of shops ranging from third-generation fabric stores to a nightclub that boasts the best DJs in Philadelphia.

As far as fabric goes, Marmelstein’s is one of the oldest (opened in 1919) and most well-known shops in the region. Most of the shops are known for a specialty market, so if you’re looking for something specific like bridal fabrics, trimmings, or upholstery, calling around will be very helpful.

When it’s time for a bite to eat and a break for your feet, stop in at Famous 4th Street Delicatessen. It’s been open since 1923 for a reason, and their gargantuan sandwiches are a great meal for two people.

Other fun things to do on Fabric Row: dance to beats from ?uestlove of The Roots at Fluid Nightclub, get inked at Philadelphia Eddie’s Tattoo Haven, get a cup o’ Joe at Redhook, and check the threads at Wilbur Vintage.

This little section of South Philly will surely steal a bit of your heart.

Planet Blue’s on a Whole Other Level

In the worPicture 12ds of Rachel Zoe, “It’s on a whole other level.” Planet Blue, home to some of the best designers and funky finds, gives a whole new meaning to a one stop shop. Everything in the store, whether clothing or accessories, is absolutely brilliant and interestingly unique. The store is filled with packed racks of clothing.

Though at times overwhelming, the store itself feels more personal as they directly acknowledge their employees style trends and picks on the internet. With an abundance of beautiful clothing left and right, the only things not so beautiful are the prices. Mixed in with the ridiculously overpriced, you can always dig hard enough to find a good deal. If digging isn’t for you, make sure you check the website and storefront frequently to catch absurd deals and seasonal sales.

Ambiance is Pretty in Pink

Picture 5Voted the best store in San Francisco nationally by Lucky Magazine and locally by The San Francisco Bay Guardian, San Francisco Magazine, and San Francisco Weekly, Ambiance San Francisco’s selection of romantic dresses and shoes has become the favorite fashion on the local streets.  With designers like Betsey Johnson, Diane von Furstenburg, Kensie, and Trina Turk, you’ll be ready for any occasion from box seats at the opera to a girl’s night out.

Ambiance doesn’t stop with dresses- they cover everything from jeans to adorable accessories to killer heels.  Your shopping experience here will be like playing little girl’s dress-up in a grown-up designer’s boudoir.

With three stores to shop ’til you drop in the Haight-Ashbury, Marina, or Noe Valley districts, you won’t walk out empty-handed.

John Gidding Loves It To Pieces

johngidding

When designer John Gidding from HGTV’s “Designed to Sell” recommends a furniture store, you know it’s something special. Pieces in Atlanta is a one-of-a-kind store that garners major attention from Atlanta-based, design television stars and national press alike.

Why does one shop receive so much praise? It’s because of owner and refurbishing queen Lee Kleinhelter.

Pieces is adorably designed where each room is a color-based vignette showing off Kleinhelter’s one-of-a-kind gems that are refurbished using her own hands. From pillows to wooden tables to antique chairs, Kleinhelter literally turns someone’s “trash” into absolute treasure.

While the antique and unique furniture tends to be pricey, you can get a completely unique accessory item for less than fifty bucks.
