Paramount Theatre: Downtown Denver’s Performance Palace
Denver’s a wonder of early to mid-twentieth century architecture, and the Paramount Theatre is no exception, boasting as it does a sweeping Art Deco interior complete with a 1600-pipe Wurlitzer organ—a feature it shares with only one other venue in the nation, namely Radio City Music Hall. But this inductee into the National Register of Historic Places is also a vibrant showcase for performers of all kinds, from alternative songsters like Sufjan Stevens and star comedians like Louis CK and Margaret Cho to TV celebrities like Buddy Valastro, aka The Cake Boss. The Paramount screens films, hosts lectures—think talks by famed Egyptologist Zahi Hawass—and of course stages holiday classics like The Nutcracker. In short, it’s a glitzy, posh one-stop entertainment shop.
1. Magnolia Films at the Modern July 2-25
Most people take it for granted that movies are art, but thankfully the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth doesn’t. Magnolia at the Modern is an ongoing series featuring critically acclaimed films from one of the most prominent independent film studios, Magnolia. 
In July, enjoy screenings of Micmacs, a David-and-Goliath tale where a man tries to destroy weapons manufacturers; Women Without Men, which is an adaptation of a novel chronicling the lives of four Iranian women during the summer of 1953; the newly released Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky that shows that passionate affair of two of the twentieth century’s icons; and City of your Final Destination, starring Anthony Hopkins and Laura Linney, of a young Iranian-American academic who seeks permission to write a biography of a Uruguayan novelist. The screenings are at various time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
2. Prized San Fran Int’l Film Fest April 23-30
Highly anticipated by its loyal and passionate audiences, championed by civic and community leaders, admired and adored by filmmakers, and closely watched by industry professionals, SFIFF is one of the most important stops on the international festival circuit.
The San Francisco International Film Festival features a bonanza of narrative feature films, live action and animated shorts, television and theatrical documentaries, experimental work and a variety of new digital media, as well as a smart lineup of industry panels and seminars, awards events, onstage tributes, retrospectives and the highly acclaimed Schools at the Festival program, which brings 4,200 students in grades 1–12 into the film festival.
1. Sundance Caliber at DC Indie Film Fest March 4-14
Hailed by Washingtonpost.com as the “Sundance of the east coast,” this award-winning film festival is the place to be for all the film lovers out there. Showcasing more than 100 feature, short, animation, and documentary films by local, national, and international filmmakers, this festival is an indie film paradise. Many of these films have even won awards at the Academy Awards, Sundance, Toronto and Cannes.
At each program, participants can view a range of films, each of which is followed by a question and answer session with the filmmakers and executives. The festival also offers a Music Festival, Master Classes, Seminars and Workshops conducted by industry professionals. The festival also presents the “Independent Summit on the Hill” on the first day, where filmmakers and policymakers discuss the state of the industry on Capitol Hill.

8th Annual Miami Short Film Festival
If you’re the impatient type, the Miami Short Film Festival is the perfect movie festival for you. This year had a record number of submissions from over 30 countries, so although the films are short, they definitely pack a lot of entertainment.
