Bottle Service Then Brunch At Libation

New York City is full of hot nightclubs, but not many can brag about a great brunch as well.  Libation, however, is one that can.  It’s a stylish restaurant and lounge in the evening, an out of control three floor playground set to hip-hop and DJ mash-ups at night, and the next see-and-be-seen brunch spot on Sunday afternoons.

But to do it all and to do it well is the impressive part.Picture 48 With three bars and two DJ booths on three floors, Libation is a veritable nightclub.  The dancing gets pumping at around eleven and bottle service is available all night on the balcony.  DJs fly in from Las Vegas and California to spin the latest tracks and bartenders mix specialty drinks such as the Libation Lemonade: fresh blueberries and blackberries muddled with fresh squeezed lemon juice, sugar and Stoli Bluberi Vodka.

After a long night of dancing and drinking, come back to nurse your hangover away with the Texas French Toast.  It comes with bananas, walnuts, and your choice of bacon, sausage, or ham, and-most importantly-unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Marys.  Brunch reservations are a must for Sunday, but planning ahead for a Libation double-header is worth it, because haven’t you always wondered what a nightclub would be like in the day?

Pandora’s Got Nothing on The Box

What’s in ThPicture 11e Box? Most people can’t get into it, but those who have, don’t even know what to say. The Box is incredible nightlife decadence and over the top sexuality that is unique- and shocking- even to this City that’s seen it all. One part Folies Bergere theater (complete with barely clothed dancers) and one part super trendy nightclub, The Box is still one of the hottest doors to get into, eventhough it’s a few years old.

The Box is shaped like a theater, complete with round tables and a second floor balcony (a.k.a. the VIP section). Starting at 1:30 every night, three “interesting” shows perform on stage in hour intervals, with each one getting naughtier and raunchier. The MC (the most famous one being Raven O) kicks the sharp-witted stage shows that are all about finding social commentary through nudity, sexuality and even faux murders. Featuring what could be circus stars (if they weren’t always nude), the acts go from crazy robotic dancers to knife wielding throwers to up and coming singers, but they are most always, always very risque performances.

Needless to say, reservations, and a very large pocketbook, are needed to get into this place that would make Sin City blush.

Funky, Trendy & a Museum? Only at New Museum

Not many buildings sport a rainbow “Hell Yes” on their facade, let alone an art museum. “New Art, New Ideas;” that’s the motto for the aptly named New Museum in the hip Lower East Side. Unlike most contemporary art galleries, the art here is so new that it includes YouTube videos(!) and art that’s a social commentary on current political hot topics like the Iraq War.

Not only is the art inside super hip and new, so is the building, that is like a modern Goliath among the aging downtown buildings. It’s actually the first art museum ever to be constructed from the ground up in downtown Manhattan.

Fitting to its artsy Bowery locale, the crowd here is more likely to be sporting Converses and Aviators than suits and ties. Before leaving, check out the seventh floor Skyroom that has a spectacular panoramic view of Manhattan from the Financial District to the Midtown skyscrapers.
