Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum
New at the Brooklyn Museum is Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera. In the late 1930s Norman Rockwell adopted photography as a tool to bring his illustration ideas to life in studio sessions. Working as a director, Rockwell carefully staged his photographs, selecting props and locations, choosing his models, and orchestrating every detail. He created an abundance of photographs for each new subject, sometimes capturing complete compositions and other times combining separate pictures of individual elements. These photographs were the focus of a recently completed two-year project at the Norman Rockwell Museum that preserved and digitized almost 20,000 negatives.

2. Photography Exposed at the Denver Art Museum June 1-30
The Denver Art Museum’s newest exhibition digs deep into its art pockets with Exposure: Photos from the Vault. It literally is just that, featuring over 50 of the best photographs from the nearly 7,000 (!) piece collection to choose from. Highlights include iconic images by Ansel Adams and Chuck Close alongside recent acquisitions from up-and-comers Petah Coyne and Shirin Neshat. Not only is this exhibit showing the best of DAM’s photography collection, it also includes many works that have yet to go on view at the landmark museum. Check out the beautiful and the quizzical images all through June.

Amongst the 110-acre property of rolling Santa Monica Mountains, the Getty Center is L.A.’s most popular and prestigious museum. The 19th annual photo l.a. is one of the leading photo-based events in the country- and for goo
d reason. Not only are attendees given access to never before seen photographs and exhibitions, throughout the weekend people can attend seminars from photography stars. For example, renowned, surreal photographer David LaChapelle, who has photographed everyone from Pamela Anderson to Marilyn Manson, will be hosting a seminar as well as well-known curators who will be hosting collecting seminars. This event is for those who want to see and learn the incredible art form.
