The Dutch at the W epitomizes simple elegance

The Dutch at the W Hotel on South Beach is turning the chic, boutique hotel on its head offering an unpretentious menu and equally casual atmosphere. It’s easy to relax in the lovely, bright restaurant where the kitchen is expertly run by renowned New York chef Andrew Carmellini.

Of course, housed within a hotel, which is unusual unto itself given that most hotel restaurants really aren’t of such a high quality, they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hazelnut crusted French toast amd crab cake benedict with asparagus and a kicky chipotle hollandaise elevate the breakfast standards while entrees like short rib ravioli, roast mushroom and taleggio fonduta and pappardelle, lamb ragu, sheep’s milk ricotta and milk are great for lunch and hefty enough they could be on their supper menu. Short ribs and sea scallops make a second appearance on that menu but are dressed up differently.

Eat, drink or catch a concert at Victory Park

Victory Park is the one area in Downtown Dallas proper to find great entertainment other than staring at office buildings. Victory Park is home to American Airlines Center and the House of Blues, bringing in sports fans and concert goers alike, and offers a whole host of activities for pre and/or post partying. Grab a pre-event meal or cocktail at the Hard Rock Cafe or Victory Tavern, or make your own post-party at the W Hotel’s famous Ghost Bar. Victory Park’s plaza also hosts a variety of events from concerts and sports watch parties during away games, to summer movie nights and the biggest New Year’s Eve party in town.

The Citi Center is Boston’s Center Stage

If you’re looking to check out a show while in town, chances are you’ll be heading over to the Wang Theatre where Louis XVI’s opulence and the Roaring Twenties come together at the Citi Performing Arts Center. Formerly known as the Wang Center, the 3,600-seat venue hosts a variety of theatrical performances from comedy shows and theater performances to dance productions and the famed Nutcracker ballet.

The center opened in 1925 and today boasts one of the five largest stages in the country. The theater has seen numerous performances, including the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Riverdance, The Kirov Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Whitney Houston, Harry Connick Jr., Dave Matthews, Lady Gaga, Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera.

While many guests choose to dress up for their special night out on the town, others can also be seen wearing more casual attire. Because there is no specific dress required here, you could see everything ranging from evening gowns to jeans. There are several parking lots located adjacent to and across the street making it easy to get in and out of after a performance.

An Unbelievable Point of View at POV Roof Terrace

In the mood for a sexier side of DC? Head up to POV (“Point of View”), DC’s trendiest rooftop bar and lounge, situated just across from The White House at the new, boutique W Hotel. Anticipation will rise as you make your way up to the 11th floor terrace, accompanied by an attractive, clipboard-bearing staff member. Be sure to do a little star gazing on your way up – the shimmering constellations on the elevator ceiling resemble the same pattern as that on the night of July 4, 1776!

Doors open and….WOW. Once you’ve recovered from the mind-blowing views where you can literally touch The White House and the glowing Washington Monument is spectacular. Grab a seat at one of the comfy, red velveteen banquettes and sip one of NYC cocktail guru Sasha Petraske’s sinful concoctions as you spy on the neighbors. After a few drinks, patrons swear they can see the lights flicker as the Obamas say goodnight to Washington.

With fresh juices poured from glass beakers and a customized ice program (certain drinks get ice spears vs. chiseled from a block), there’s no doubt Petraske’s creations are a true marriage of both science and art. Be sure to try his famous Dark & Stormy, made with zesty homemade ginger beer.

Insider Tip: Be sure to make a reservation beforehand (smaller parties should use opentable.com) – the hotel reserves a certain amount of seating for their guests whether they show or not, and the line halts at the elevator.

W Atlanta Cabin Fever Movie Series

Only for the month of November, W Atlanta Perimeter is making Tuesday the night to be cozy with the W Atlanta Cabin Fever Movie Series. Offering three patio pit fires, hot chocolate, roasting marshmallows, and a feature film all under the stars and free of charge, this re-launch of Cabin Fever should be the way every hotspot opens.
