Buy local at White Rock Market

White Rock Market is a great little non profit farmer’s market where local farmers, ranchers and artisans come together twice a month selling locally raised, farmed or crafted goods March through December. The second Saturday of every month involves everything from food items to arts and crafts. The market is also open the fourth Saturday of every month just for farmers, producers and food artisans. The market is held at The Green Spot Market on Buckner. Shopping at the market is also a great way to just figure out what’s in season, as “they” say shopping seasonally is the way to go. It’s always seasonal, local and delicious at the White Rock Market.

Find fresh local produce year-round at the Dallas Farmer’s Market

The Dallas Farmer’s Market has been serving Dallas with fresh local produce for 60 years. The market is open 362 days a year (closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s) from 8 am to 6 pm. The vendors at the market offer all kinds of produce as well as meat, flowers and shrubs, and local honey. There are also some produce vendors from out of state (don’t worry, everything is marked if buying local is your cup of tea) in addition to eateries and gourmet food vendors. They also host all kinds of classes throughout the year ranging from cooking and fitness classes to more “how-to” classes (as in, how to pickle things).

The Grove: Mall-ing Cali Style

Picture 92West Hollywood’s Grove kicks the regular American mall experience’s butt. Stores vary little, but here it is all about the extras and Disney-esque outdoor shopping. Water in the main fountain dances, as made famous in the blockbuster I Love You Man, and a Green Grove Trolley drives through the mall’s cobbled walkways. It’s also always good for celeb spotting and the occasional Jonas Brothers concert. If opting for a teeny-bopper day, prepare for the included screaming girl stampede.

Big brand favorites reign at the Grove. Nordstrom and the Grove Movie Theater are central for staples like Anthropologie, Sephora, Crate & Barrel, Barnes & Noble, Apple, J Crew, Kiehls, Gap, Michael Kors, and more. Restaurants are familiar chains of upscale mall fare, like The Farm of Beverly Hills and The Cheesecake Factory, but California air and fountain entertainment majorly up the décor. Or for a little more local flavor, try LA’s famed Farmer’s Market adjacent to the Grove.

Rick Bayless Loves to Walk Under the Picasso

Frontera Grill’s Rick Bayless is a big fan of Chicago’s outdoor areas, but there’s something special about Daley Plaza that never gets old for him.  Daley Plaza is a great place to go year-rouCHIdaleyplazand, with events happening every season. From Halloween activities to the great Christmas tree to ethnic festivities to remembrance ceremonies for Memorial Day, there is always a reason to visit the area.

Even when there’s not an event going on, Rick Bayless told citybuzz he likes to head over to Daley Plaza due to a certain Spanish artist:

One of the places that I’ve never tired of walking through, and we have some really beautiful ones in Chicago, is the area right around Daley Plaza because we have that incredible Picasso sculpture… It’s really fun because they are enormous sculptures and they almost invite you to be part of it, to climb around in them, to interact with the sculpture in a way that I think the artist really want you to do. They are not something that’s sort of often and distant, but something that invite you into them.

Rick Bayless loves the sculpture in Daley Plaza, but we’re sure he also loves the Chicago farmer’s market that calls the plaza home from May through October.

***Rick Bayless is an award-winning chef-restaurateur, cookbook author, and television personality. Known for his Mexican cuisine, Bayless has become hugely successful with restaurants like Chicago’s Frontera Grill and America’s only fine-dining Mexican restaurant, Topolobompo.
