Sara Jane’s No Plain Jane

Goodbye to Plain Jane. Sayonara, Farewell, Au revoir! Now say hello to Sara Jane.

It was the fall of 2002 when Sara Jane opened a store bearing her own name in hopes of providing a true boutique experience amongst the slew of chains just blocks nearby on the Magnificent Mile. Nestled in perhaps Chicago’s most charming neighborhood, Old Town, Sara Jane has made her humble splash on the scene. Although a regular in Lucky Magazine and Chicago Magazine, ask your average Chicagoan and they probably have never heard of the place.

But local fashionistas and Old Towners know to turn to Sara Jane for unique finds on adorable dresses, cocktail wear, jeans and accessories. The quick turnover allows for more variety and the small space often times conjures up new friendships and gab sessions (lucky thing there are plenty of pubs and bistros nearby!) A visit when “Sara Jane” herself (a.k.a. Sara Plocker) is there will only prove this neighborhood-gal-pal feel all the more.

Stella McCartney’s Rock ‘n Roll Meatpacking Store

Picture 26Stella McCartney was born rock royalty, but in the design world she has become a fashion force to be reckoned with: Madonna, Gwyneth and Cameron are a few of her famous fans. Her fiercely feminine clothes (think sexy with a draping of romance) were the first to invade the now uber chic meatpacking district that is now host to DVF, Carlos Miele and the late Alexander McQueen, among many other design houses.

Besides being the offspring of an ex-Beatle, Stella is most widely known for her staunch PETA stance. So near to her heart is the cause, that before she even started her line in 2001, she told Gucci Group her line would stay true to its “no fur and no leather” stance. Such conscious free clothing includes vegetarian shoe collection, faux fur and faux leather, but the luxury is most definitely always there with the incredible tailoring, craftmanship and unique designs. Stella’s line is huge with everything from fragrances, shoes, bags, and organic skin care to cashmere coats and red carpet dresses.

An added bonus? Her father’s Beatles music is always playing whenever you walk into the meatpacking store.

Ambiance is Pretty in Pink

Picture 5Voted the best store in San Francisco nationally by Lucky Magazine and locally by The San Francisco Bay Guardian, San Francisco Magazine, and San Francisco Weekly, Ambiance San Francisco’s selection of romantic dresses and shoes has become the favorite fashion on the local streets.  With designers like Betsey Johnson, Diane von Furstenburg, Kensie, and Trina Turk, you’ll be ready for any occasion from box seats at the opera to a girl’s night out.

Ambiance doesn’t stop with dresses- they cover everything from jeans to adorable accessories to killer heels.  Your shopping experience here will be like playing little girl’s dress-up in a grown-up designer’s boudoir.

With three stores to shop ’til you drop in the Haight-Ashbury, Marina, or Noe Valley districts, you won’t walk out empty-handed.
