Holidays at Atlantic Station

Atlanta’s Atlantic station might be the place to meet with friends or family this season, but it’s also a great place to cross some things off of your to-do list while basking in some holiday cheer. The open-air holiday shops at Atlantic station offer everything from stocking stuffers like jewelry and handcrafted soaps to fine art for your home. There are wine tastings, lunch specials, happy hours, and DJs among the festivities. Stay for the snowfall, weekdays at 7:30 and weekends 6-9 hourly. If you’re lucky you might even get a photo op with Santa any weekend through Dec.24th.

Island Hopping, Catalina Style

When you and your significant other are looking to spice things up, you might want to ditch the Picture 12typical Palm Springs or Napa Valley getaway. Catalina Island is the perfect place to relax without turning in your sneakers and map. Offering amazing hikes, great museums and restaurants worth visiting twice, the trip by land, sea or air is definitely worth it.

Activities on the island include golfing, scuba diving and boat tours. If you are of the less adventurous breed, the island offers some great boutiques and clothing stores for the shopper extraordinaire.

Though weekend getaways are always worth it, the island will most likely always be home to a wedding each and every weekend. So if you are thinking about booking a trip but want to avoid the wedding craze, the website offers hotel packages and accommodations to make your stay extra special.

Whether you decide to fly or choose to drive, the trip to Catalina is worth it.

Golden Gate Fields: Where the Bay Goes to Play

A day at the races has long been America’s favorite pastime, well next to baseball and BBQ’s.  Luckily for San Franciscans, the Berkeley shoreline across the bay houses Golden Gate Fields, the only horse track in Northern California. Even for first timers, it’s easy to get swept up in the scene.  There are dozens of screens overhead on every floor highlighting the races, boxing matches, sports, and just about any televised activity favorable to gambling.Winners

Making a reservation in The Winner’s Circle is where your group receives personal attention.  With a champagne buffet set up next to the winner’s circle, valet parking, and your group’s name introduced by the track announcer, this is true Derby in style.

Most fans opt to come on Sundays for $1 beer, programs, tickets, and hot dogs. For those feeling more lavish, the Turf Club has amazing views of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the Golden Gate Bridge.  They even have Hermes and Gucci equine scarves on display next to antique bridles worn by winners past.

With tickets starting at $5, this is a place where everyone can take a Sunday to play.
