Ah! It’s just so delightful when one little boutique makes gift-giving totally effortless. Such is the case at Jonathan Adler where one visit intended to be “quick” could stretch into an easy hour and plenty of bags of goodness (of gifts … and a few for you too of course).

The bright colors pr_int_05practically sing “Come In!” from the windows of the Jonathan Adler boutique on N. Wabash Street in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. Inside it only gets brighter, happier and more inspiring to shop!

Hot items you’ll find – and which you’ll have a hard time parting with unless you buy one for yourself-  include: the ever-famous Muse Votive candles available in two sizes (go on, get the bigger one for yourself), the funky Queen Anne mirror, and of course, the too-cool throw pillows featuring sayings, designs of all sorts, and engraved letters.

If you need something smaller, you’ll find it here, too. The boutique makes shopping easy with incremented suggestions starting at $50 and under as well as suggestions for the host/hostess, Hanukkah and young ones.

Absolute POP! sells a huge variety of “art blocks,” glicee prints set in frames that are made from sustainable hardwood grown in North American forests, as well as other art, like tin signs and fine photograph prints. Love Yourself in Le Labo Perfume

lelaboIf you have always wanted your signature scent and didn’t know where to turn, Le Labo Fragrances is an absolute must. The inside of the store looks more like a testing lab than a chic boutique, but the gentle details and eloquent touches give you a “Paris chic” vibe that the bustling streets of L.A. are missing.

One of the specialists in the store will walk you through your scent likes and dislikes, leaving you in charge to create your own signature scent. Though the bottles can get a bit pricey, they make great gifts that allow you to put your name and expiration date on the bottle.

If the idea of mixing lavender and vanilla all day long sounds unappealing, you can always opt for the other solution and purchase the perfumes on their website. Le Labo Fragrances on 3rd Street is one of those unforgettable places that makes you feel one of a kind, just like the perfume you bring home.

Putting the Decade in Decadence

Along a stretch of South Broadway where they’d have sounded downriPicture 6ght foreign a few short years ago, the adjectives “quirky” and “luxury” are becoming not only apt, but synonymous with the area thanks to finds like Decade.

A fixture in the gentrifying Baker district, this funky apparel and accessories boutique is a browser’s (not to mention buyer’s) dream, filled wall to wall with the likes of colorful handknits and Audrey Hepburn–retro wool trenches, cheeky piggy banks and cheekier lingerie, coffee table–worthy cookbooks and sumptuous Shiraleah handbags with all the bells and whistles (or, as the case may be, straps and buckles). In the back room, tot-sized togs and trinkets abound.

The collection is as varied as the kudos it receives from local publications, from “Best Paris-Flea-Market-Style Store” to “Top Maternity.”

As you take it all in, keep your eyes out for Stella the Fella, the feline mascot in the gem-studded collar.
