Whales, Seahorses & Dolphins Oh Shedd!
Not only does the Shedd Aquarium play home to some of the most beautiful and exotic sea creatures humans could ever lay their eyes on, but it also is home to one of the best views you’ll find in the entire city of Chicago.
Located on a peninsula jutting out in Lake Michigan, from outside and within its dome-like windowed walls, the entire city of Chicago is laid out like a panoramic postcard from within the museum. The view aside however, kids and adults alike ooh and ahh over the amazing array of sea life. From teeny tiny seahorses of all colors and shapes majestically fanning around their world, to dolphins jumping and baby beluga whales being born, the Shedd Aquarium provides top notch entertainment day and night, all year round.
Visitors learn about sea creatures from every crevice of the world and can catch specially scheduled shows to see the dolphins and whales in action. After hours, the Shedd hosts plenty of parties and mixers so be sure to check their schedule to see if a cocktail hour at the Shedd is happening (always a blast!). Jazzin’ it at the Shedd happens Wednesday nights and serves as the perfect place to catch the nightly fireworks shooting from Navy Pier.
3. Rock Out With Denver Day of Rock May 29
In just one day, catch 20 bands on four stages in downtown Denver. Each stage will feature local acts capped off with a national headliner. This year, the bands include Five For Fighting, Fishbone, the Aggrolites, the Romantics and the Fixx. Best part about the festival? It’s all free!
The rock festival is hosted by Concerts For Kids and geared towards a family setting with a variety of kids-oriented entertainment, like face paining, chalk drawings, Rock Band on Wii, a Skatelegends.com demo and more. Participating restaurants offer food and beverage specials to ROCKSTAR wristband holders and local businesses will be offering interactive stations near each stage.
The Best Drive is to Universal City Walk
When venturing out to Hollywood to witness the bright lights and eccentricity on the boulevard seems daunting, there is an alternative that takes out the chaos and adds some fun. Universal City Walk is truly one of a kind in that it’s a city within a city, offering everything from movie theaters to restaurants, candy shops to water ballet. Locals and tourists alike are always gathering in the one p

If you are looking for a quick bite to soak up all the fun, Universal has adapted the mall-like food court and offers quick eats from Dodger Dogs to Panda Express.
Once the shopping and eating comes to a rest, Universal City Walk has a nightlife scene offering great alternatives for those who don’t want to venture to the other side of the hill. Places like Saddle Ranch and Howl at the Moon bring in large crowds and keep the excitement alive all night.
Whether it’s daytime fun or nighttime entertainment, the crowds never seem to stop arriving at City Walk. The next time you feel like driving to Hollywood, skip the traffic and expensive drinks and drive to the Walk.
The Academy of Natural Sciences: T. Rex to Asian Butterflies

The Academy of Natural Sciences, established in 1812, is the oldest natural science museum in North and South America, chock-full of permanent and touring exhibits, family programs and activities. All 4 stories of the Academy are wonderful for all ages and feature a variety of permanent exhibits that would delight any child. If they like a little adventure, more than 30 dinosaurs and other Mesozoic reptiles reside in Dinosaur Hall, including a 42-foot long Tyrannosaurus Rex! For the daintier types, the Butterflies! exhibit showcases live butterflies from Central and South America, East Africa and Southeast Asia in its tropical garden. And everyone can enjoy The Live Animal Center, which holds over 100 live birds, mammals, reptiles and invertebrates. Ceiling-to-floor observation windows let you look behind the scenes, where staff and volunteers feed, groom and upkeep all of the animals.
Check out the website before heading over, because the visiting exhibits are ever-changing and always exciting.
Disney Meets History at Kid-Friendly Port Discovery
Who doesn’t love a little Disney? With the exhibits designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, Port Discovery ranks as one of the Top 5 Children’s Museums in the U.S. by Child Magazine and has about 250,000 visitors a year. It is home to fifteen distinct environments and exhibits, providing a very educational and interactive experience a.k.a. if you’ve got a kid, this is the place to go.
Using the philosophy that children learn best through experiences, Port Discovery’s exhibits are very hands on and range from a Sensation Station for toddlers to a mystery house where kids try to solve a mystery using clues and evidence of an Egyptian pharaoh’s “lost” tomb. The museum also offers diverse programs, such as Healthy First Saturdays, which focuses on healthy living, and Discovery Days, which is designed for children with special needs.
This museum is only a short walk from the Inner Harbor and is definitely worth checking out.
