Vital Spa: Maximum Luxury for Mind and Body

Luxury’s a given around Cherry Creek. But Vital Spa, located in exclusive health club Pura Vida Fitness, takes it to the max. A single treatment gets you a full-day pass to the club, complete with a complimentary yoga class; buy five treatments, and you get a sixth free, be it a hot stone massage, a customized facial, or a firming body wrap. Acupuncture sessions, manicures and pedicures, and holistic nutrition consultations are also available, and so are “enhancements” like scalp rubs and dry body brushing. Add to all that interior design that combines the elegance of an art gallery with the peacefulness of a nature sanctuary, and you’ve got yourself a blissful urban escape.

Let Izba Spa Whisk You Away—Literally

Picture 42First they beat you with whisks made of birch and oak, then they rub you down with honey—it may sound odd, but you won’t knock it after you’ve tried it at Izba Spa. Izba means “log cabin,” and this beautiful Russian banya, wood-lined and painted with frescoes, indeed transports you far from the grind of City Park. Although there are more basic options, a two-and-a-half-hour deluxe package includes a dip in the hot tub, a full-body massage, and a body polish as well as two traditional sessions in the sauna—yet costs only $135. So go for broke, or you may be kicking yourself for passing up a bargain later, which will be far more painful than the  treatment itself (really, it’s very gentle).

Get Mellow at Willow Spa

As you are driving on Santa Monica Boulevard looking for this spa, don’t expect to find it on the first level of a high rise or accompanying a gym. Willow Spa looks more like someone’s holistic house than a “top ten” rated spa in Los Angeles, but if you can gather your bearings, one visit to Willow Spa may change the way you live and the way you relax.

Known for its Asian-willow picinspired massages, facials and scrubs, Willow Spa is similar to others offering over-the-top treatments in luxurious surroundings. Though most spas open the door for you and close it when you leave just as fast, Willow Spa explains the importance of living well, while also indulging in such treatments. One of the greatest things about this spa- other than its tropical feel and décor- are the packages they put together, such as the Thai “Balance” package that is like a small vacay to paradise, featuring a Tamarind body scrub and Flower and Milk foot soak; or the specialized Bride & Groom package that offers a week by week “to-do” spa and relaxation experience before the big “I do’s.”

If you are ready to roll your eyes about how expensive this “luxurious” treatment is going to cost you, you might want to clasp those rolling eyes and take a look at the price menu. An hour massage is less than a hundred dollars which is considered a bargain, especially in this city. So the next time you are driving down Santa Monica in bumper to bumper traffic, look for the Asian-influenced cottage offering a home away from home… or at least a well-deserved pit stop.

Get Your Body and Mind Aligned at In-Symmetry

San Francisco is inundated with salon and spa storefronts- some pricey, some alternative and some for the gentleman traveler.  Yet who wants another mediocre massage when there’s In-Symmetry?  Hidden on the south side of Potrero Hill, this high quality day spa has a “members only” atmosphere and an “everyone’s welcome” price- just like Trader Joe’s.

Picture 20In-Symmetry Spa is as proud of its history of service for Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, K.D. Lang, Ashton Kutcher, Pink, and Natalie Merchant as it is its deep-tissue massage services for the masses of locals who frequent here every week.  No matter who you are, this laid-back spa will treat you with the indulgence and respect you deserve after your long week at work.

Aside from a Zen Hot Stone Massage that will make your body melt on the table, and a healing Sports Massage, In-Symmetry provides specialized Pre-Natal massages that pamper mama-to-be and Facials that will tone and tighten your face without the surgery.  But be prepared, every service here will leave you floating on air with your head in the clouds, so planning your payment ahead of time might be wise.

Escape to the Italian Riviera at Fuga Salon & Spa

A mini-break to Italy is the goal of Fuga Salon & SPicture 6pa, which is the mastermind of Italiano Antonio Favaro when he arrived in the States just two years ago with one intention: provide the people of Chicago with a quick escape to Italy.

For starters take the complimentary espresso and panino coming straight from the spa’s very own Italian espresso bar. From there look ond pick your pleasure. The Fuga signature facial with Mediterranean essential oils is a favorite or maybe the “Juliet” is more your thing with more powerful resources like retinol and enzymes. For men, try the Cassanova facial to clear your mind (and your pores).

Here the world is really your Italian oyster. Massages (everything from sports to lymphatic), cellulite treatments, body wraps, waxing and top-notch hair design services will leave everyone with a little bit of  Sophia Loren in them. Mamma mia!

Melt The Day Away at Kabuki Springs & Spa

With daily stressors that can wear and tear at your body (and every last nerve), it’s nice to have a place to get away from the grind.  Kabuki Springs and Spa in JaSFkabukipantown accommodates the pampering needs of all, from private, alternative wellness services to San Francisco’s only Japanese-style community baths.

Designed to promote harmony and relaxation, Kabuki specializes in the exotic Pan-Asian experience.  Just $20 at the door and you’re led through orchid and Buddha-lined hallways to a private dressing area, then through the steam curtains into the bath house.   Serene music plays in the background as you melt the stress away in the hot tub, warm and cold baths, sauna, or steam room.  There is no time limit on relaxation at Kabuki, so take a rest between each bath on cedar lounge chairs and hydrate with cucumber water or detoxifying tea.

Open seven days a week, Kabuki hosts men-only, women-only, or co-ed days, depending on your preference.  Talking is strongly discouraged (have fun banging the Thai-style gong if it gets too loud for you!) and intimacy is not allowed.  There’s no need for anyone to feel uncomfortable, since personal peace, space, and wellness are Kabuki’s top priority.
