Check out heritage brand Etienne Aigner’s new flagship store in Soho

Etienne Aigner is a heritage brand that’s been respected for its value, quality, and devotion to classic fashion for decades. The brand just opened up a 3,500-square-foot flagship store in Soho, located at 65 Greene Street.

The Dutch

I would like to introduce you all to this new Soho gem: The Dutch restaurant. Located in the old Cub Room space on Sullivan and Prince, Dutch is charming, welcoming, and their dishes are fabulous. The fairly large restaurant is decorated with giant globe lights, vintage mirrors, wood, and an unique eight-stool oyster bar. The best part is the back room with a working fireplace, and a private dinning room in the basement (reservation are required). On the Dutch’s generous menu you will find seasonal green market salads, good steaks, delicious sandwiches, a great fried chicken, seafood, and amazing pies. The Dutch is great for dinner, but lunch and late nights also.

Two Spots for One Stop Shopping At Bloomingdale’s

For the stylish New York shopper only one stop is necessary: Bloomingdale’s. They are on top of every trend and have more brands than you’re even aware exist. In the denim department you’ll find J Brand, Joe’s Jeans, and 7 For All Mankind for miles; Rebecca Minkoff totes, and COMME des GARCONS wallets in the handbag department; Marc by Marc Jacobs ballet flats, Diane von Furstenberg clogs, and Stuart Weitzman heels of all types in shoes, and then there’s still more. For men, Bloomingdale’s has Theory, Converse, Paul Smith, and John Varvatos shoes, clothes and outerwear. They have funky home goods, they have luxury jewelry finds, they even have celeb skin secret La Mer. This is, after all, a department store- New York style.

The old world charm of the Flagship Bloomingdale’s on Lexington is enchanting, but to get down to shopping business the younger (and more European) clientele tend towards the Bloomingdale’s in SoHo. Either way, floors upon floors of designer and hard-to-find boutique brands await. And when you are done shopping for yourself, you can repent for your shopping sins by buying something for mom in the Home department – Le Creuset is available in ten colors – or for your niece in the Kid’s department – Ralph Lauren Polos for little ones come in all sorts of colors.

The Scoop On The Latest Fashion

Scoop’s byline is “the ultimate closet.” And how else could this – Alice & Olivia tunics, Zac Posen gowns, Tom Binns jewelry, Theory blazers, Helmut Lang tees, Marc Jacobs clutches, Vince camis, exclusive Stewart Weitzman heels and flats, Ya-Ya skirts, and Acne jeans – be described? Ultimate, for starters, because that’s just the women’s section. The men’s, kid’s, and home sections meaPicture 49sure up accordingly with brands like DSquared and Chip & Pepper.

For one-stop fashion shopping there are three Scoop locations in New York City to chose from. Specializing in boho chic, flowy beach wear, Calypso has all your vacation (a.k.a. Hamptons) styling needs.

Calypso started in the tiny Caribbean island of St. Barth with a focus on women destined for exotic locations like Rajastan, Marrakesh and Bali. Calypso has become most famous for its beaded caftans, colorful tunics and stunning silk dresses that perfectly compliment the finer destinations in the world. Stylish to the Exotic at Pearl River Department Store

Teas, slippers, lamps, party supplies, stationary, fengshui, window blinds, ceramics, bags, lanterns, condiments, kitchenware, and chinese dolls are a few of what fills the shelves at Pearl River. Clearly,  Pearl River isn’t your average department store- or even store for that matter. As an intriguing blend between two very different cultures, Pearl River is the first Chinese American department store.

Stepping into the SoHo store, one is immediately overcome with unique colors and never-before-seen (in the West, at least) toys and trinkets. The three-story store in the middle of SoHo is constantly expanding, like the new 10,000 foot home department.  Needless to say, it’s a one-stop shop for everything you may need, Chinese or American.

Get the True London Look at Topshop

“Get the London Look” may be Kate Moss’ Rimmel tagline, but it doesn’t apply more aptly than for the much buzzed about Topshop. As the face/designer of Kate Moss for Topshop and its highly anticipated U.S. debut in SoHo, Topshop puts the likes of other trendy, discount stores like H&M and Zara to shame. It’s colorful, crazy celebrified, and seriously stylish; there’s a massive shoe boutique, accessories section, vintage galore, and a floor dedicated to men. Other stores may have guest designers, but Topshop has a resident Supermodel, Kate Moss, and an entire Picture 7floor designated to high-end designers giving fierce fashions specifically for the fashionista Topshop crowd.

And the shoe selection! Ahhh! If this was around during the SATC era you know SJP would be digging through discount heaven at the Christian Louboutin inspired sky-high stilettos and ultra designed Prada inspired heels. You can find more unique, colorful, and designed shoes at Topshop’s shoe boutique than at Saks Fifth Avenue- and that’s a guarantee.

Let’s not forget about the boys. Topman is dedicated to all things men. From Fedora wearing playboys to laid-back model glam to suits and ties, Topman has everything a stylish city guy could want. This is very smart as it allows the boyfriends/husbands some time to shop for themselves while their other (better) half peruses the other floors of goodness.

If you walk anywhere in London (including red carpets), chances are the hot girl or man is wearing something from Topshop or Topman. That’s because it embodies the London street look of tons of colors, boho vintage, and maybe one too many nods to the neon 80’s. But hey, it’s super fun and seriously fashion forward and- just wait- it will be invading the rest of America soon.

The Met’s Thomas Campbell Eats at Balthazar

Balthazar is owned by the same Keith McNally of the trendy, meatpacking hotspot Pastis, so it’s no wonder it’s always packed with a cool crowd. One of the Picture 9elite New Yorkers that frequents the French bistro in artsy SoHo is the Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Thomas P. Campbell.

Often quoted as a “masterpiece,” Balthazar is known for its fresh baked breads, delicious brasserie cuisine, and rustic Parisian-inspired decor. Favorite dishes include the short braised ribs, Portbello mushroom sandwich (for lunch), and the proudly named Balthazar salad.

No matter what time of day or night you head downtown, this brasserie is always buzzing with social New Yorkers like Campbell. Make sure to call ahead for a reservation. But if you just want to drop by, you can go to the Balthazar Bakery and grab some of their famous grains to enjoy in the privacy of your home.

Mizuo Peck is INA Love

Film star and native New Yorker Mizuo Peck loves to shop at one of New York’s coolest insider stores, INA.

INA describes itself as “New York’s best and most established designer consignment store,”Picture 13 and it’s very hard to prove them wrong.

Opening their flagship in 1994, they are now five stores strong in some of Manhattan’s most prized shopping real estate: NoHo, SoHo, Nolita, and Uptown.

INA is not your average consignment store where one most purge through racks of outdated and moth-ball smelling clothes to find the designer gem in the pile, it instead chooses the best of the best in fashion of yesterday and today. INA consistently fills its racks with beautiful, well-maintained, and luxurious items at discounted prices that make both fashionistas and recessionistas come back for more. They have everything from barely used Chanel wallets to Christian Louboutin heels to Tory Burch skirts. Some items are truly vintage while others are simply last season’s castaways, but all are absolutely devine.

And if this store doesn’t seem like it could get any better, it also has an amazing blog that keeps you up to date on new inventory, sale items, and INA employee’s picks for all its stores.

INA consignment stores are a shopper’s dream and unlike most “chains”, every INA store is completely unique from each other and from each day.

**Mizuo Peck is most famous for her role as Sacajawea in both “Night at the Museum” films starring Ben Stiller. Peck has worked closely with respected photographer Bruce Weber for the cover of L’uomo Vogue and appeared with Angelina Jolie in the Rolling Stones’ music video, “Anybody Seen My Baby?” Peck, a native New Yorker, still lives a block from her childhood TriBeCa home.

New York City Fire Museum

This museum is dedicated to the history of the men and women in the New York City Fire Department. This museum is a great way to teach your “junior” firefighter about how the fires were fought from colonial times to today. Besides just showing tools and apparatus, the museum also contains actual carriages used to carry water. This museum contains a large collection of fire memorabilia with many rare artifacts.
