The New Museum – a strong statement about contemporary art

The New Museum is devoted entirely to contemporary art from all over the world. Its exhibitions are often shocking, controversial, and they attract great criticism. But isn’t this what contemporary art is all about? The building of the New Museum, located on Bowery and Prince, is a contemporary art piece in itself. The Japanese architecture firm designed the building as a series of gigantic boxes, the museum’s galleries, placed on top of each other. It is truly a monument of contemporary art. Located in the Lower East side, where most buildings are old and poorly maintained, the building of the New Museum definitely stands and makes a strong statement – contemporary art exist, and it matters. The New Museum seems to reject everything that is bourgeois or old, making space for a new direction in art and culture – modernity.

Creatures of Comfort got your style covered!

Creatures of Comfort is the type of store every fashionista will fall in love with. But the store it is not for fashionistas only. In fact, it has a little bit for everybody: from shoes, to clothing, unique accessories, and art. Despite the variety of things they sell the space looks airy, and beautifully organized. They carry a large variety of labels such as Acne, Tom Scott, MM6, and of course the house label, Creatures of Comfort. Most of the labels have designs in minimalistic style with a very modern, urban touch. The store is getting daily shipments of merchandise, so expect to see new things every time you walk in. Creatures of Comfort will make sure you never go out of style.

WestWay – a fun ‘den of sin’

If you take out the professional go-go dancers, and bring in New York’s downtown crowd you get the new West Way. Formerly a gentleman’s club and located just off the West Side Highway, West Way still feels like a little ‘den of sin’. It was strange, but definitely fun to see such a hipster, young and fashionable crowd in this venue with glittery walls, windowless rooms, and 80s remixed music. The place is spacious, with various rooms, disco lights, a huge D.J. boot, gteat beats, and a fantastic energy. Even though it is in the West Village, there is nothing conservative about this place: everyone is there to have fun, and they certainly know how to.

Beecher’s – The Cellar

The Cellar – what a discovery! I passed by the Beecher’s Handmade Cheese store in Flatiron District many times, however it took me long time to discover the true gem they were hiding: the little wine bar/ restaurant. In the store, visitors can witness the old art of making cheese and buy the products. However, they also have the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine with the delicious cheeses in their very romantic cellar downstairs. The Cellar serves a wide variety of wines, cheeses, meats and charcuterie in a quite unique environment. The candles, the small wooden tables, and the lack of windows make this little venue the perfect place for a date.

Frankies Spuntino

The Frankies Spution restaurants – one in Brooklyn and the other one on 17 Clinton Street, no longer need an introduction. They are already well known by many of the Italian cuisine lovers. Fortunately for New Yorkers, Frankies opened a new location in the West Village on 570 Hudson Street. Just like the other two locations, the new venue looks beautiful and welcoming, with a comfortable dinning space, a spacious bar area, and Italian food at its best. Most of their dishes are seasonally-inspired, prepare with simple ingredients but great attention. Nothing looks too pretentious; however, everything is absolutely delicious. Simple but heavenly – that’s how I would describe their food in two words. Any day of the week expect this place to be packed, because who doesn’t love Italian food in such a pleasant environment?

Pace Galleries of New York

If you are a collector or simply a contemporary art lover, you should not miss the shows at Pace Gallery. Over the last couple of years, Pace became one of the most influential galleries in the world, with incredible authority over the course of contemporary art. They represent some of the most sough artists of the day – such as Willem de Kooning, Chuck Close or Jim Dine, and their shows are always deep, shocking, and unforgettable. Some of those art pieces you see today at Pace Gallery, you might see tomorrow at the MoMA. Pace Gallery has a couple of locations in Chelsea and Midtown Manhattan.

The MoMA Store

The MoMa store in Soho is one of my favorite places to shop for creative items. They offer a large variety of cool, quirky objects, from toys, books, prints, to jewelry, accessories, and home deco products. It is certainly one of the best stores to shop during the gift season, as there is something for everybody. However, I highly recommend it to those who simply want to spoiled themselves and buy something ‘cool’ at an affordable price. As you can probably guess, every object is very modern, and unique, being that an electronic watch, a plastic chair, or a croc woven rug. If you are only visiting New York, I recommend the MoMA store, as highly as I recommend the Museum with the same name.

The Beacon Theatre

The Beacon Theatre is a historical place, and today it became one of the world’s leading live music and entertainment spaces. This place is certainly a must see, firstly for the variety of shows they offer, but secondly for the beautiful architecture. Conceived in 1926 by the film producer Herbert Lubin, the theatre’s neo-Grecian interior features gigantic Greek goddesses, arches, a spectacular stage, which can rise, carrying a full classical orchestra. The Beacon Theatre is part of the National Register of Historic Places, and it features today’s most sought after artists, therefore, it should not be missed.

All Saints SoHo

When this British store finally opened its doors in SoHo New York, it was love at first sight. I would describe their style, as modern, urban, aggressive, but comfortable in the same time. Their cuts are asymmetric, sometime random, with the use of a lot of leather. The predominant colors are white, black and gray. But even is All Saints is not your fashion style, I would still recommend you to pay a visit. The store is very large, and it is decorated with metal, wood, and dimmed lights, creating a very interesting atmosphere. Expect it to be pricey; however, All Saints will guarantee you to look unique, and fashion-forward.

The Famous Waverly Inn

The Waverly Inn is a classic. If you manage to play your best cards, and get a table, you will feel part of an exclusive dinning club. No matter when you go, you will most likely be sited next to a celebrity, best-selling author or top-model. The décor is beautiful, cozy, with a lot of wood, chandeliers, fireplace, and paintings which create the atmosphere of a townhouse inhabited by English aristocrats. The food is outstanding, and the service is great. They also promise to use “local and organic” ingredients, whenever it is possible. Many consider The Waverly Inn pricey; however, for such a selective dining experience, it is certainly worth it.

Veselka – great food anytime!

Veselka offers probably the best and most authentic Easter European food in New York, anytime of the day. Given their long operating hours, Veselka is great for breakfast, brunch, and late night snacks. Everybody loves Veselka for some obvious reasons: it is cheap, it is fast, it is non-pretentious, and it is absolutely delicious. I believe every New Yorker ends one day at Veselka. It can be for a very early omelet or for some pierogies at 3am. The vibe is great, and the crowd always surprising. So, do not be surprised if you get sited at breakfast next to a group of hip kids dressed as if they just stepped out of the club – because they did.

The Bourgeois Pig – one sexy pig!

What a creative, sexy, and fabulous bar! The Bourgeois Pig brings a little bit of the Parisian chic in the heart of East Village. The décor is absolutely fantastic. The vintage furniture, the drapery, the dimmed light, and the red lamps, will make you feel as you step in the boudoir of a Parisian courtesan in the 1920s. And the French atmosphere is completed by a large selection of French wines on their menu. You will also not fail to notice a large red neon sign, which adds to the sexiness of this place. Therefore, I highly recommend this The Bourgeois Pig for a date, but a group will have just as much fun. The Bourgeois Pig is the intersection of sexiness, and mystery, with fun, and modernity.

The Mulberry Project

The Mulberry Project is one of Little Italy’s best kept secrets. The entrance is almost impossible to locate in Little Italy’s craziness, so it is known only by the real connoisseurs. The inside is small, cozy, dark, with a beautiful bar, and a back garden. Despite not being in the heart of Meatpacking, The Mulberry Project attracts the same people as the most popular downtown places in New York: a gorgeous, fun crowd. No matter when you go, the venue is always packed, and the vibe is perfect. One of my favorite things about The Mulberry Project is their ‘costumed’ cocktail. They can mix you a drink based on your favorite flavors, and everything is delivered with great care, and a smile.

Trapeze – An unique experience

Recently, I’ve learned how to fly. Flying trapeze got me closer to the experience of flying freely, than any other activity I’ve tried before. Trapeze School New York offers outdoor classes in their Hudson River Park location on top of Pier 40, for all level students. If you are a beginner do not panic, it is far from any danger, the instructors will guide you the entire time. The setting is breathtaking: you will literally feel like you fly above the Hudson River. And the energy it gives you is fantastic. Some people try it for the challenge, some for the unique experience, some for the work-out and many just for the fun. No matter what your motive is, you are going to love it, and go back for more.

The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers

This post is for New York’s golf lovers, who can not practice freely in the city, but for all those whom never tried to play golf before. The Golf Academy at Chelsea Piers, has a 2,000-square-foot indoor center, perfect for all the golf lovers. The Club also offers private/semi-private classes for beginners and more advance golfers. They have fifty-two heated and weather-protected hitting stalls on four levels, so you can finally play regardless of the weather. You will also be pleasantly surprised by the amazing riverside views and the country club setting of the space. You can reserve the place for a private party, or take your group of friends and teach them how to golf, under the guidance of the Club’s friendly instructors. I can not think of a more unique location for an event, a date, or catching up with your friends.

Extra Virgin – Extra Good Food and Charm

Extra Virgin is no longer a secret for the residents of the West Village. In fact, it is one of the most popular brunch places in Manhattan. Extra Virgin feels very low key, with its exposed brick walls, wooden tables, and friendly staff, however the food is just as good as in any up-scale restaurant. They change their menu frequently, and they always offer

inventive Mediterranean dishes. I simply love their roasted chicken and the delicious artichokes Provençal. The place is always crowded, but if you are lucky to get a table outside, you will get a good feeling of the life in the popular West Village. The restaurant is on the corner of West 4th street and Perry street, one of the most charming blocks in New York City.

Flute – Sophistication and Fun

The French décor, the dimmed lights, and the delicious champagne make Flute one of the most romantic bars in New York City. Despite its charm, Flute is a hidden gem in Gramercy, known only by real New Yorkers. The place can be defined as upscale, but cozy and very comfy.
Their staff is friendly, and they will help you decide on the wide variety of one hundred and fifty champagnes, plus the wines, of course. Some nights you can listen to beautiful jazz played by a live, talented band. Therefore, Flute brings together class, sophistication, culture and fun – truly a NYC place, which you should not miss.

The New Gansevoort Hotel

The Gansevoort Park is another gem brought to NYC by the Gansevoort Group, which turns to be their most impressive location yet. The entire place is funky, very modern, decorated with bright colors and hip furniture, but very comfortable and welcoming in the same time. According to the ‘connaisseurs’, Gansevoort’s Penthouses (PH1 and PH2) host some of the best parties these days. A significant part of the space is completely made of glass walls, offering amazing views of the city, and giving a modernistic feeling to the entire place. They also have a beautiful terrace on the top floor, where a DJ spins and summery cocktails are served. In general, more than one party takes place at the same time on these two floors, bringing together a mixed, stunning crowd of people. All these and more make the new Gansevoort Hotel a Must this summer.

The Fabulous ABC Home

ABC Carpet is more than a store. This stunning place feels more like a museum, where you can take home your favorite pieces. The six floor flagship located in Manhattan at 888 Broadway and 19thStreet, is a combination of exhibits of European antiques, vintage goods, Asian rugs, glittering chandeliers, gigantic statues, modern pieces of furniture, and much more. Despite the variety of styles which they sell, everything is beautifully exhibited, and blends in perfectly. Most people go there to shop, but there are many people – including myself, who go there just for the visual experience. Yes, their items are luxurious, and they come at a high price, but ABC Carpet is truly the wonderland of home deco.

Isabel Marant – comfort and style meet on Green Street

The French born designer Isabel Marant brings to the US the quintessential Parisian style. At a first look, her designs seem effortless, comfortable, but with details which give them a bohemian, modern twist. The muted colors, and the high-end textiles, make her clothing easy to wear, but visually beautiful. Even though, she is a well established designer in France, Isabel Marant opened her first boutique in New York in 2009 on Green Street (corner of Broom). Her store sells her main collection and a more affordable line – Etoile. She also designs and sels beautiful pieces of jewelry. With the opening of this store, Marant became increasingly more popular among NY’s fashion people, so her loose-fitted dresses and masculine jackets can be seen on Thursday nights at galley opening in Chelsea, or on a Saturday night in Meat Packing.

Therefore, Isabel Marant creates for the stylish woman, who wants to be fashionable, but feel comfortable at the same time, and look as if she didn’t put much effort in dressing up, even though she looks absolutely fabulous.

The New Dream Hotel

The Dream Hotel recently opened its glamorous doors Downtown. The project which took almost five years to complete, and around $280 million had to rise to the standards of the already established places located in close proximity: The Standard and The Gansevoort. But The Dream certainly proves to be a threatening competitor. Last week, I had the privilege to go on a private tour of the entire space, and I was pleasantly surprised, so I’m going to share part of the experience. While walking in the Meatpacking District where it is located, I had no troubles spotting the hotel. The modern architecture is truly unique, entirely made of metal with round windows, and glass doors. Once you step in their shinny lobby, you will immediately feel transported into a futuristic world. Chandeliers, walls entirely made of glass, and the high-end furniture blend in together, creating a superb, modern space.

If you are only visiting the hotel, you can either grab a bite in their restaurant downstairs, or dip into their glass-bottom pool. But if you are too shy to go in for a swim – in fact the glass bottom of the pool is the ceiling of the lobby, just get a ten on their improvised sand. Great opportunity to show off that bikini body. But now let’s talk about my absolute favorite part of the hotel – the stunning PH bar. Located on the top floor, the bar offers amazing views of the city, a modern decor, fun cocktails, and NYC’s best crowd. Even though the bar is meant to be simply an amenity for the hotel’s guests, their parties are populated by a melting pot of socialites, celebrities, financiers, mixed in with the fashion world and the more creative types. So, yes, this is the new hot spot in town, and it is not just a ‘Dream’.

Taboon – Middle Eastern cuisine meets Mediterranean cuisine in Hell’s Kitchen

If you ask real New Yorkers where to go for the best Mediterranean food, they will probably send you to Taboon restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. If you ask them where to go for the best Middle Eastern cuisine they will most likely send you to Taboon also. They prepare most of their exotic specialties in a wood fired oven by blending in Mediterranean flavors with the Middle Eastern cuisine. In fact, “Taboon” in the Arabic word for oven. Every dish is splendid, and comes in a beautiful presentation, staring with an appetizer of falafel. Their lamb kebabs are huge, and they taste just as good as those I had on the streets of Israel. But let’s not forget to mention the décor of Taboon: authentic, authentic, authentic.
Therefore, Taboon offers a complete, unforgettable Middle Easter experience in the heart of Manhattan.

Calypso – Cruise in Style

The glamour of St. Barts translated into fashion – that’s how I would describe Calypso’s designs. Founded by the French fashion guru Christiane Celle, Calypso is the intersection between chic and glamorous with comfortable and summery. The silk-beaded dresses, pants, tops, and skirts are perfect for an upscale island vacation, but great for a summer promenade in NYC, or an evening in the Hamptons as well. Calypso has a couple of Zen, beautifully decorated stores in NYC: 426 Broom St, 935 Madison Av, 191 Lafayette, 815 Madison etc. They also have leather accessories, shoes, bikinis and a gorgeous house line. My favorites are the candles and the house fragrances which can bring the scent of St. Barts into your own living room.

Anna Sui: the colorful world of Fashion

Names by Times Magazine Top 5 Fashion Icons of the decade, Anna Sui creates timeless designs. Putting on one of her flowery, colorful dresses will not only flatter your silhouette, but put you in a good mood also. Everything is vivid, brightly colored, and made of easy to wear fabrics. In addition to clothing she also sells cosmetics, fragrances, and accessories in about 50 countries around the world.  In NYC you can purchase her designs in various high-end department stores, but I highly recommend you to visit her boutique in Soho on 113 Greene St, which is in fact her original store.  The design of the store is funky, painted in black and purple (Anna Sui’s signature colors), and they will also allow you to put items on hold.  Even if Anna Sui is not necessarily your style, you should still check the store out – it will be a nice visual experience.

Publish your thoughts in McNally

Wonderful news for all the authors in you! Now you can print your own book in NYC in the charming McNally Jackson Bookstore in Soho. You can print and Self-Publish library-quality paperbacks in a blink of an eye. You can print only one copy or an entire stack at an affordable price and test the market right in their bookstore.  McNally will let you sell it on their shelves, and you will retain the rights to your work. You can also design your own cover and add images inside. McNally is becoming increasingly more popular. For instance, Cory Doctorow – influential Science Fiction writer and cultural critic published his latest work in different formats in McNally.  Your novel, memories, diaries, notes and thoughts can now come to life.

Kayaking – Fun at No Cost

Activities such as the kayaking on the West side of Manhattan makes me appreciate this city even more. Downtown Boathouse is generously renting kayaks at NO cost in three locations: Pier 40, Pier 96 and West 72nd Street on Hudson River. They provide pretty much all you need for a nice stroll on the river: 40 kayaks, life jackets, lockers, and instructions. All you have to do is sign a waiver, and prepare for a great ride. Boathouse’s activities are made possible by a team of diligent volunteers and public donations, so free to get on board.
Tip: There is nothing more beautiful than kayaking just before sunset.
How can we not love New York City?

Milk

Milk in Meatpacking District is the place where magic happens. Some of the most important magazines such as Vogue, GQ, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, or Rollin Stones and the most influential ad campaigns are all shot in there. Milk is a factory for beauty, fashion, coolness. During the spring and fall fashion week, Milk hosts many fashion shows, followed by hip after-parties, attended by celebrities, and the industry’s most influential figures. The first floor’s spacious gallery exhibits almost weekly today’s most sought after artists and photographers. The opening night of these exhibits is a place where New Yorkers gather to have cocktails, and put on a show.
Milk is located at 450 West 15th Street.

Clic is Chic

With locations in the most high-end places on Earth: Soho NY, East Hampton, St.Barts and Cannes, Clic is a charming gallery mostly focused on photography. Their location on Broom Street New York exhibits some of the most sought after photographers, and hosts hip events, attended by New York’s elite. Clic was in fact founded in 2008 by the fashion Guru – Christiane Celle. They also sell a large variety of art books, photo books, and rare autographed copies, turning Clic into a classy bookstore in addition to the respected art gallery. In Clic you will be able to see legendary photographs by Patrick Demarchelier or Elliot Erwitt. So, if you love photography, art, or beauty in general, make a stop at Clic.

Ink48: drinks, fun people, and a view

The 16th floor of the hotel Ink48 offers a spectacular surprise: a glamorous bar with unbelievable Manhattan and Hudson River views. The lounge is glass-enclosed for a full visual experience of the city, and they also have an enormous deck with outdoor seating, and comfy chairs. You can pick from a variety of wines, crafted cocktails, and delicious nibbles. The crowd is mixed: hotel guests, business men, plus hip and fun New Yorkers. So forget about the Empire State Building, I can assure you that New York City can’t look any better than from the top of the classy Ink48 Hotel.
Ink 48 is located at 653 Eleven avenue.

The Ace Hotel

I want to invite you to a very unique…lobby, because that’s what this bar slash restaurant slash coffee place slash library is – the lobby of the Ace Hotel. This place is great at any time of the day. In the afternoon you can bring your computer (free wireless internet) and work over a great cup of coffee, you can also grab a snack with friends and relax in their wingback chairs or leather loveseats, and at night put most hip clothes one, because the Ace turns into a popular bar with a tight door. They also have a fun photo boot – I already have an impressive collection of photos (just $5 each). And if you are on the go, just get a coffee at the Stumptown (located in their lobby as well).

Bocca di Bacco

This charming Italian venue, called Bocca di Bacco, manages to stand even in the competitive restaurant scene of Hell’s Kitchen. Even though they call themselves a wine bar, explained by the generous selection of 40 wines by the glass and around 500 by the bottle, I personally consider Bocca di Bocca a fabulous restaurant, with an amazing Northern Italian cuisine. The space is stunning.  Mostly made of wood, with brick walls, and dimmed light, this is one of Hell’s Kitchen’s most romantic spots. If you pass by Eights avenue and 54th street, you are probably not going to miss it. Their majestic wooden door made me walk in Bocca di Bacco for the first time.

The Dutch

I would like to introduce you all to this new Soho gem: The Dutch restaurant. Located in the old Cub Room space on Sullivan and Prince, Dutch is charming, welcoming, and their dishes are fabulous. The fairly large restaurant is decorated with giant globe lights, vintage mirrors, wood, and an unique eight-stool oyster bar. The best part is the back room with a working fireplace, and a private dinning room in the basement (reservation are required). On the Dutch’s generous menu you will find seasonal green market salads, good steaks, delicious sandwiches, a great fried chicken, seafood, and amazing pies. The Dutch is great for dinner, but lunch and late nights also.

Christian Louboutin – because your feet are worth it!

It is said that every woman needs a little black dress. True! However, I would like to add: every woman needs a pair of Louboutin…or more. Christian Loubutin – the God of all shoes and spoiled legs, no longer needs my modest introduction. This is simply an anthem for the high-heels which can make even my legs look fabulous. Being recognized as the high-end shoe designer who brought stilettos back into fashion, Christian Loubutin is probably one of those brands which will never die. Therefore, despite their outrageous price, every pair of Louboutins can be seen as a smart investment. In New York City, there are two stores – one on Madison, and a very chic one at 59 Horatio, in the West Village. At both locations you will find a friendly staff, and a variety of perfect stilettos.

Start the summer in style with Cynthia Rowley

If you are strolling around the West Village one of these hot days, don’t hesitate to stop by one of my favorite stores in New York City: Cynthia Rowley, for a refreshing shopping experience.  This charming store is located in the West Village, on Bleecker and Perry.  What I found impressing when visiting Cynthia Rowley for the first time is that they are manufacturing some of their clothing in a unit just above the store.  Cynthia’s dresses (what she mostly focuses on) are vibrantly colored, summery, fun, and made out of easy, comfortable fabrics.  You can also find a wide selection of hip, colorful accessories.  In a couple of words: everything you need to start this summer in style.

The International Center of Photography

The International Center of Photography in Midtown Manhattan offers its visitors the best lesson in the history of photography one can get. Its collection includes works by Robert Capa, Gerda Taro, Mitch Epstein, photographically illustrated magazines, old photographic mediums, as well as pieces of American and European documentary photography from 1930’s up to 1960’s. The Center also has a database for those interested in research, or for curious minds. It currently has in display a solo show – ‘When , one of the most influential Beijing contemporary artists. His large scale color photographs are truly a memorable visual experience, which shouldn’t be missed.

Cafe Gitane

Every time I meet my girlfriends for dinner or brunch, I no longer have to give them the name of the restaurant, they simply show up at Cafe Gitane in the Jane Hotel, because it is not easy to find another spot just as good. We used to go to their location in Soho, however due to high popularity, there is always a long wait, so the Gitane in the Jane Hotel solved our problem: same delicious menu, but much bigger space and a lot more character. The space is very large, and it has the vibe of an old French restaurant, forgotten by time in the Jane Hotel. The stunning bar, the comfy old sofas, the wooden tables, and the big windows give a very unique feeling to the place. Try their famous avocado on toast, the eggs, or a French croissant with coffee. Delicious!

UNIQLO – a store for all of us!

Uniqlo is one of the main brands who introduced Japanese apparel to the USA. How? Simple style, great fabrics, colorful prints, affordable prices, mass production. I first discovered Uniqlo in Tokyo – their T-shirts with Manga prints were must-buy presets for my friends back in New York. So, I was thrilled when i found out they opened a location in Soho, and I have been a loyal customer ever since. Similar to the one in Japan, the New York store is huge, airy, and full of light. The service is great, and their merchandise is always neatly organized. Uniqlo sells hundreds of styles of T-shirts, tights, sweaters, jackets, blazers – they certainly have something for everyone. T-Shirts start at $12.90 and the prints are fashionable, colorful, and catchy. Tip: during fall and winter you can find cashmere sweaters for less than $100 – and that’s what I call a great deal!

Kiki de Montparnasse – Luxurious Eroticism

From the controversial name to the boudoir-like interior of the store, from the high-end lingerie, and the pleasure objects they sell, this might be world’s sexiest boutique.
Kiki de Montparnasse is the nickname of Alice Prin, a French model and artist who contributed to the liberation of Paris’ cultural life in the 1920s. Same as the muse who inspired the name of this store, Kiki de Montparnasse is for clients with no inhibitions, with confidence, and an exquisite taste for luxury. This place is unique in many ways – where else could you buy handcuffs and dildos polished with gold? The interior of the boutique reminds me of a luxurious French cabaret – one might expect courtesans to appear through the heavy red and black curtains of the changing rooms. Even if you can’t afford any of their pricey pieces of lingerie or fine erotic toys, just walking through the store is a great, sexy experience in itself.

Intermix: Diversity and Style

Intermix is by far one of my favorite stores, given the variety of styles, designers, and the quality of the clothing that they sell. With locations in Manhattan’s most upscale areas, such as Soho, West Village and Upper East, Intermix not only sells high-end designers such as DVF or Chloe, but more affordable labels also (as long as the fashion world is buzzing about them). In Intermix you can dress from head to the toe, in other words, they have pretty much everything you can ask for – dresses, heels, bags. I also love the fact that they change their merchandise frequently. So, if you really like something decide quickly, it might not be on their shelves for too long

Put you best dress on, and try L’Artusi!

L’Artusi delivers an Italian food experience at its best, in a chic environment. What more can you ask for? Quite larger than an average West Village restaurant, L’Artusi looks spacious and glamourous. It is the kind of place where you can put on a pair of high heels, and your favorite cocktail dress and have dinner downtown, without feeling overdressed. The deco is chic, with dark walls, high ceilings, and a lot of marble. They have two floors, both just as crowded, but the place still feels cozy and intimate.
Their small dishes are heavenly, and the cheese bar is famous among cheese lovers. I love their scallops, the big selection of wines, and not to mention the desserts. L’Artusi can satisfy the taste of even the most critical New Yorkers.

Jimmy – views with style

Located on top of the James hotel in Soho, the first thing is going to strike you when you enter this upscale bar is the view of the city. With an almost 360 degrees view of downtown Manhattan, and Hudson river, The Jimmy will make you feel like you are on top of world. And for a even better experience of the view, you can go on their gorgeous terrace, which will certainly make this place even more popular, once the summer days are here. If you are planning to try it out, make sure you are dress to impress, and have your credit card ready, given that cocktails are not less than $18. But the views, the service, the music, and the crowd are not going to deceive you by any means.

Rubirosa – for a memorable slice of pizza

Unless you are in Italy, it is not easy to find a venue where you can have a perfect slice of pizza, in an welcoming environment. Fortunately for New Yorkers, there is Rubirosa , located on Mulberry between Prince and Spring Street. This little Italian restaurant is one of the coziest venues I know, and their pizza is one of the best I ate in New York so far. But don’t get distracted by the pizza only, because most of their dishes are simply delicious. And caution – no matter what you order from their menu, it is going to come in a large quantity. Being lunch or dinner time, Rubirosa is always crowded, and their staff always friendly. The gorgeous wooden bar, the wooden floors, and dimmed lights make the place look rustic and warm, reminding of a nineteen century farm in Italy’s countryside. But what makes Rubirosa truly memorable is certainly the food.

Neue Galerie

The art movement in Austria and Germany in the first half of the twentieth century influenced the course of art history for generations to come. Simply remember the master Gustav Klimt, Alfred Cubin or Grosz.
The Neue Gallery on Fifth Avenue and 86th Street, collects, preserve, and exhibits some of the most beautiful masterpiece of that period, including paintings, sculptures, or diverse decorative arts in a superb space. The gallery is in a Beaux-Arts mansion house, with a marble staircase which gives access to all the floors.
Visiting the museum is not only a pleasant visual experience, but a history lesson also. The German art for instance, emphasizes on significant events of the twentieth century.
And if you are overwhelmed by the beauty and wight of the art, take a break and have a tea and desserts in their gorgeous Cafe Sabarsky, and imagine yourself in Vienna in the 1900s.

Gagosian Gallery

Sometime we don’t even realize how fortunate we are to live in New York City and witness art history in the making. The Gagosian Gallery with a location on West 24 Street, and one on Madison and 76 Street, is perhaps one of the most influential factors in determining the course of contemporary art. The artists that hang on their walls today, might fill up the pages of history books tomorrow. Gagosian is not just another art gallery, Gagosian might be the most important gallery out there. They have the power to influence the art movement, determine prices, and make contemporary artist masters. Being an observer and a passionate art lover, I consider it a privilege to be able to walk into Gagosian and have a Murakami, Richard Prince, or Roy Lichtenstei in front of my eyes.

Beauty comes at a price at Provocateur

If you want to meet New York’s most attractive crowd, Provocateur in Meatpacking District is the perfect place to go. And if nature isn’t selective enough, then the bouncers at Provocateur certainly are. This upscale venue might have the toughest door in the entire city, making it exclusive, glamourous, and desirable. On a Thursday night, there are more fashion models at Provocateur, than in Lincoln Center during Fashion Week. But as we all know, beauty comes with a cost, and in this case, a very high one. Their prices are extremely high, but the service, the music, and the crowd – outstanding. Provocateur is divided into two part – a lounge and a night club. So, whenever you need to take a break from dancing, you can indulge yourself with a $20 cocktail in the lounge area.

Marc by Marc Jacobs, a budget-friendly store

Marc Jacobs needs no introduction. He is certainly one of the most influential American designers alive. But if you think brand name clothing and accessories always come with a high price, well, you are wrong. The little Marc by Marc Jacobs store located on West Village’s cutes block – Bleecker between 11th street and Bank has prices for every budget. The store has pretty much everything a true fashionista needs: keychains, rain boots, wallets, umbrellas, scarves, jewelry, T-shirts etc, etc, etc. For only $20 bucks you can buy a Marc Jacobs T-shirt, and for $28 a pair of MJ rain boots. The store is no longer a secret to New Yorkers or tourist, therefore it is always packed. Regardless the weather, there is always a huge line outside, but the wait is worth it.

A place for sophisticated bookworms and more

dining-rmIn 1924, the famous financier J. P. Morgan, Jr. gave New York City an extraordinary gift – his father’s library to the public. The palazzo-like structure is located on 36th street and Madison avenue, and its rooms are packed with rare books, old manuscripts, drawings, antique furniture and art. Some of my favorite objects are the drawings by Rembrandt, Michelangelo and Raphael. I felt very privileged to discovered concept drawings for my beloved book The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint Exupery. Also, the Library has a beautiful cafe, with an 18th century feeling, and a Madison avenue crowd, which you should not miss.

Where New York’s artists are socializing

thejaneThis gorgeous bar is surprisingly located in the lobby of a boutique hostel. The interior of the Jane Hotel Ballroom, looks like a smaller version of an old European chateau, with a gigantic fireplace, high ceilings, chandeliers, paintings, and antique furniture. Despite the majestic look of the place, the staff is very laid back, and the crowd young, diverse, and artsy. In a regular night at The Jane, you might meet a struggling artist from Brooklyn, sitting next to a best-selling author, or a famous actor. Located in the beautiful Greenwich Village, The Jane is known for being a good place to meet new, interesting people, in a marvelous, and unique environment

Meet Rembrandt in Mr. Frick’s living room

FRICK_180The Frick Collection is the first museum I recommend to friends who are visiting New York. Yes, they already know about the Met.
Besides, the Frick is significantly smaller, so after a visit, tourists might have enough energy left for a walk in Central Park as well. The Frick Collection was founded by the famous industrialist Henry Frick. At his death, he wished to turn his New York resistance into a public gallery, exhibiting his most outstanding art works. Given that it was a private house before, the interior of the Frick is warm and very welcoming.
The Collection includes over one thousand works, made by the most influential artists in history, from the Renaissance to the nineteen century. I consider it a privilege to be able to admire superb works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, or El Greco, in Mr. Frick’s own living room.

I have high standards, and I take them to Nobu for dinner

nobuweb-imagesdining-roomGiven that I lived in Japan for a long time, I have high standards when it comes to my sushi dinners. However, Nobu probably rises above everyone’s standards. Smaller than the gigantic, and glamourous location midtown, Nobu Next Door can be considered an up-scale neighborhood venue, mostly populated by Tribeca’s residents. The chef delivers authentic Japanese cuisine, with a touch of modernity. Try the black cod, rock shrimp with spicy mayonnaise, tuna tartare, and any of the sushi rolls. Decorated with natural textures, such as trees, wood, and river stones, the space looks cozy, organic, but modern and sophisticated in the same time.

Embark on a tasty experience at Lure Fishbar

img_2674If you love fish, I encourage you to go on board of Lure Fishbar. The inside of this spacious Soho restaurant, looks like a huge yacht, with classy passengers, and a very friendly staff. The fish is outstanding, and the deserts are ‘dangerously’ good. In fact, anything you order in Lure is simply delicious. And if you are not ready to leave Lure after dinner, try a glass of wine at their magnificent bar. Therefore, Lure seems to have it all. The location, the atmosphere, the great food, and the large space, make this restaurant a perfect spot to bring your group of friends, your family, or a date on a Friday night.
