If you are a collector or simply a contemporary art lover, you should not miss the shows at Pace Gallery. Over the last couple of years, Pace became one of the most influential galleries in the world, with incredible authority over the course of contemporary art. They represent some of the most sough artists of the day – such as Willem de Kooning, Chuck Close or Jim Dine, and their shows are always deep, shocking, and unforgettable. Some of those art pieces you see today at Pace Gallery, you might see tomorrow at the MoMA. Pace Gallery has a couple of locations in Chelsea and Midtown Manhattan.

Italian Culinary Heavyweights Deliver at Del Posto
For an authentic yet modern, inventive Italian meal, not many restaurants in NYC deliver in style like Del Posto. With both Mario Batali and Lidia Bastianich at the helm- er kitchen- from the first steps guests are greeted to a grand experience:
classical pianists set the mood in the ballroom of a dining room with balcony seating, three sets of marble staircases, wrought iron railings, and wooden beams in the high ceilings.
Start your meal with the Abalone Carpaccio with Grilled Asparagus and Young Ramps or with Lidia’s Lobster Salad alla Catalana with Tomato and Celery. For your primi course, the hand made Orecchiette with Lamb Shoulder Sausage, Crispy Morels, and Minted Soybeans is worth it for the minted soybeans alone. For your secondi course, there’s no way to go wrong, but if you are feeling adventurous try the Roasted Turbot – from the Mediterranean – with Caponatina, Crunchy Fregola and Moorish Spices. To finish, the Chocolate Ricotta Tortino with Toasted Sicilian Pistachios and EVOO Gelato is a masterpiece of a dessert and the perfect ending to a beautiful Italian meal.
At Del Posto, the atmosphere and the service are impeccable, but in the end, it is all about the food – as it should be.
Scandalous to Fabulous at New Limelight Marketplace

It’s hard to believe the once infamous nightclub Limelight-that was once an Episcopal church turned into a scandalous late night party house- is now a chichi mall. There’s a doorman in a marble lobby of the new Limelight Marketplace, a chandelier on every ceiling, and exquisite – read, expensive – designer pajamas available from Olatz that you can wear in bed, while you eat artisan chocolate from Mariebelle Cacao Bar & Cafe.
On the first floor, formerly the main dance floor, there are Havianas and Hunter boots in every color imaginable, on the balconies there are flower arrangements from Barbara Scott (that might break the bank if you’re not careful), and rows of dainty handmade jewels from Tina Tang. And in the once co-ed bathroom that posted naked pictures of porn stars, you will find classy Brocade home furnishings fit for a modern princess.
In short, the Limelight Marketplace has it all for the ultimate upscale New York, however ironic, shopping experience. But lost on this irony the Limelight Marketplace is not. Many of the boutique stalls are set up around little bars that serve wares instead of alcohol: at Alexander West you can order a custom (bespoke!) men’s dress shirt and at Petrossian you can order ten different types off caviar – if that’s what you’re into. There are mannequins dressed as club kids on the main floor and there are antique bobbles from Old Hollywood on display in front of an enormous stained glass tryptic on the balcony. Shopping at the Limelight Marketplace is truly a unique experience – especially if you have experienced it in its former gritty glory.
1 OAK is One of a Kind
1OAK, which stands for One Of A Kind, is the true Manhattanite hotspot. Hidden at the crossroads of the Meatpacking and Chelsea party districts, it brings together the best of both of these worlds: a strict door policy (read: better, hotter clientele) and music that keeps people dancing until daylight.
1OAK has all the elements that make
for a hot NYC nightclub. It’s small and elegant, so the doormen are super choosy at the tight door. Celebrities come here like no other club in Manhattan: it’s the place where Lindsay Lohan infamously tweeted about Justin Timberlake’s supposed “indiscretions.” 1OAK hosts some of the most VIP parties in Manhattan, from Fashion Week after-parties to Robin Thicke’s birthday party, with guests like Jay-Z and Beyonce, to name but a few. The DJs are some of the best around, the cocktail waitresses are some of the hottest around, and the prices are, well, astronomical.
So what makes it one of a kind? 1OAK is the place for after hours clubbing. When true parties get sick of the first club at, let’s say, 2am or 3am, they head over to 1OAK where the party is just getting hot. The door technically closes at 4am, but that’s only when they stop serving alcohol, as this party goes much later and gets much crazier. For those staying late with a table, 1OAK is rumored to bolt the door and serve its patrons breakfast.
Now that’s 1 Of a Kind.
It’s SL If You Know Where To Go
Out with the old, in with the new. In New York nightlife, that means goodbye Britney fave Lotus, hello super-hot Simyone Lounge. What was once the VIP section (floor) of the Chelsea favorite Lotus is now an entire club that is so VIP it goes by its initials
. Brought to you by the masters of meatpacking nightlife, EMM Group of Tenjune fortune, SL has all the same management, killer music, and strict doormen that make a club du jour a hot staple in New York City.
This highly anticipated re-opening has thus far lived up to its buzz. Opening during New York’s favorite holiday season, a.k.a. Fashion Week, SL brought in leggy models and the admiration of the hard-to-please New York Times. Since then both young and Hollywood have been making this their nightlife home, from the cast members of Gossip Girl to the likes of Demi Moore and Mickey Rourke.
If you’re one of the beautiful few that makes it past the door, the basement club is pure energy. At the front is a narrow bar/lounge (lounge is a term used very lightly, meaning bottle-service tables with large, leather couches) that opens up into a full-on standing room only club complete with rainbow disco balls and world-renowned DJ’s spinning techno, classic rock, top 40, and hip hop all in one night.
Patty Tobin Does Big Bling for Little
Jewelry Designer Patty Tobin’s self-named flagship store has garnered frequent visits from some of NYC’s most respected women: news anchors, magazine editors, and politicians’ wives just to name a few.
The reason they visit the unassuming Chelsea store is for the big, one-of-a-kind jewels at prices that don’t match the quality of the work. Prices are from $65 to $895 for everything from pearl drop earrings to chunky onyx necklaces with gold and Swarovski laden ombre clasps. It sounds luxurious, and it is, at prices that make one-of-a-kind attainable for all.
Where SNL Stars are Born: Upright Citizens Brigade
Before Amy Poehler was Baby Mama and a SNL star, she was one of the four founders of Upright Citizens Brigade, one of the premiere improvisation theaters in the country. UCB is known for its long form improvisation and the 152-seat, intimate basement theater. It is so intimate that you can literally see the sweat on the performers’ faces during the scenes. The talent ranges from familiar faces you may have seen on Madtv and 30 Rock to advanced students showing off their comedic timing on stage.
Make sure to book tickets in advance and if you plan on going to the famously free Sunday show, be prepared for a long wait. This is a casual affair with fold up chairs and an intermission filled with cheaply priced beer and wine, but that’s the way comedy should be: gritty and real.
Take in the Tropical Air at the Cabanas
Cabanas at The Maritime Hotel is the Meatpacking’s rooftop escape from New York City’s summertime swelter. Whimsical patio furniture, amid tropical décor, feels like a Hampton retreat stories above the concrete jungle below. It’s always a better scene mid-week for social cocktails. A good dance floor night at Cabanas is refreshingly playful, unlike its fellow summer see and be seens.
Cabanas is just one of the Maritime Group’s NYC nightlife institutions. Its sister NYU hang Bowery Bar is another summer air favorite, and The Maritime Hotel’s Matsuri and nightclub Hiro offer a swankier scene just downstairs. A massive white wall with marine windows, the Maritime Hotel is impossible to miss. Its meatpacking/Chelsea location makes the Cabanas perfect for jumping off or capping a crisp summer night out.
