Music lovers rejoyce! Dave’s Records: Vinyl utopia with NO CDs!

The sign on the door says it all- NO CD’s!! Never had ‘em!! Never Will!! Dave’s Records is totally devoted to vinyl.

Dave’s Records carry all speeds (33,45,even 78), all formats (7”, 10”, 12” single, EP , LP), and all styles (rock, jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, house, disco, reggae, blues, folk, country, vocal, soundtracks, show daves_records tunes, classical, indie/alternative and every sub-genre you can imagine). If it’s on vinyl, it’s here now or it’s passed through the doors and in to someone’s crate. On any given day, there are at least 40,000 titles to choose from. Every day new titles freshen the racks. Dave’s Records sell both new and used. You’ll find both import and domestic new vinyl. You’ll find a wide assortment of new reissued vinyl. You’ll find out of print used vinyl that you’d thought was long gone. No matter what it is, you’re likely to find it in their bins. If you come to Chicago, check them out.

Abracadabra

The popular haunt of Halloween revelers, magicians and pranksters who like to play dress-up, this super-cool Flatiron supply shop is filled to the rafters with plenty of tricks, props, clown gear, magic supplies, masks, wigs, scarily realistic costumes and other ghoulish goodies – as well as that odd or outlandish accessory you’ve always wanted; if neat freaks are spooked by the cramped quarters, the spellbound shrug it’s all part of the “horror museum” experience.

Ted Baker

From the beginning Ted has had a very clear, unswerving, focus on quality, attention to detail and a quirky sense of humour, so much so in fact that the first stores used to provide a laundry service for every shirt purchased – something that gained the quickly growing brand the title of ‘No Ordinary Designer Label’. Everything produced under the Ted Baker name has his personality woven into its very heart.

As you would expect from Ted, the approach to marketing the brand remains the same as it was from day one … primarily by word of mouth and out of the ordinary marketing. What other brand would give away Paxo stuffing at Christmas, a can of chocolate bunny hotpot for Easter, or even special world-cup 2006 football cards, Roy of the Rovers style? Ted remains one of the only brands to be built into an international designer label without an advertising campaign.

Creatures of Comfort got your style covered!

Creatures of Comfort is the type of store every fashionista will fall in love with. But the store it is not for fashionistas only. In fact, it has a little bit for everybody: from shoes, to clothing, unique accessories, and art. Despite the variety of things they sell the space looks airy, and beautifully organized. They carry a large variety of labels such as Acne, Tom Scott, MM6, and of course the house label, Creatures of Comfort. Most of the labels have designs in minimalistic style with a very modern, urban touch. The store is getting daily shipments of merchandise, so expect to see new things every time you walk in. Creatures of Comfort will make sure you never go out of style.

The MoMA Store

The MoMa store in Soho is one of my favorite places to shop for creative items. They offer a large variety of cool, quirky objects, from toys, books, prints, to jewelry, accessories, and home deco products. It is certainly one of the best stores to shop during the gift season, as there is something for everybody. However, I highly recommend it to those who simply want to spoiled themselves and buy something ‘cool’ at an affordable price. As you can probably guess, every object is very modern, and unique, being that an electronic watch, a plastic chair, or a croc woven rug. If you are only visiting New York, I recommend the MoMA store, as highly as I recommend the Museum with the same name.

Moo Shoes

MooShoes, Inc. is a vegan-owned business that sells an assortment of cruelty-free footwear, bags, t-shirts, wallets, books and other accessories. MooShoes offers its services through an online store as well as in its lovely retail store in New York City, the first cruelty-free store of its kind in NYC. Founded in 2001 by sisters and Queens natives, Erica and Sara Kubersky, MooShoes was originally located near the Gramercy Park section of Manhattan in a defunct butcher shop. After a brief period on Allen Street, MooShoes re-located to its current location at 78 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It’s an amazing neighborhood, especially for vegans, and there’s a ton to do in the area.

MooShoes is also home to a slew of rescued cats who were adopted from some of our favorite local organizations, many of whom hold adoptions days at our store from time to time. We’ve been lucky enough to hold many events at the store for many talented, genrous individuals and organizations in the vegan community.

Jayson Home and Garden: a gardener’s dream

Rarely do we ever see a beautiful garden anywhere in the city but in a park, if we’re lucky, or someone’s back yard. Not so in Lincoln Park’s Jayson Home and Garden. Unlike cookie-cutter gardening stores, like Home Depot, this gardening oasis is an absolute delight to all the senses, particularly in their outdoor garden store. Even though they’ve cut back recently in their floral selection, Jayson Home and Garden offers top-notch plants as well as decor for inside and outside the home. Don’t expect to find wilting perennials here; rather this gardening store draws patrons in with a plethora of blooming flowers, and keeps you there — if only to browse — with unique and beautiful pieces.

UNIQLO – a store for all of us!

Uniqlo is one of the main brands who introduced Japanese apparel to the USA. How? Simple style, great fabrics, colorful prints, affordable prices, mass production. I first discovered Uniqlo in Tokyo – their T-shirts with Manga prints were must-buy presets for my friends back in New York. So, I was thrilled when i found out they opened a location in Soho, and I have been a loyal customer ever since. Similar to the one in Japan, the New York store is huge, airy, and full of light. The service is great, and their merchandise is always neatly organized. Uniqlo sells hundreds of styles of T-shirts, tights, sweaters, jackets, blazers – they certainly have something for everyone. T-Shirts start at $12.90 and the prints are fashionable, colorful, and catchy. Tip: during fall and winter you can find cashmere sweaters for less than $100 – and that’s what I call a great deal!

White House Black Market

The brand’s significant focus is on creating a comfortable, inviting, and hospitable atmosphere for customers. Seating is available in store with water available. During special events, food and refreshments and catering are occasionally offered. Customers who are members of WHBM’s loyalty program “Black Book” are entitled to 5% off upon achieving permanent member status. Other perks include catalogues, double discount days, and “Girls Night Out” where the store will close for a private party.

Let Out Your Inner Pinup Girl at Dollhouse Bettie

Every woman has a saucy siren lurking somewhere within her, waiting to be coaxed out. And nothing helps a woman understand the power of her own sensuality than slipping on a sexy bra or lacy negligee. That’s where Dollhouse Bettie comes in. This vintage lingerie store is located on Haight Street and carries everything from vintage nightgowns to retro-inspired pieces as well as garter belts, stockings and vintage accessories.

The store not only pays homage to the bygone era of the pinup girl but it also encourages women of all sizes to embrace their femininity. Whether you’re just window shopping or looking for something to surprise your special someone – Dollhouse Bettie can help you out.

The store is as intimate as its apparel with fun vintage-inspired decorations. The staff is more than willing to help you out whether it’s figuring out what size you need or to dis.
